What do i need to achieve 185+whp?
I just got my apex n1' cat-back today. Hopefully i'll get it installed before next week with JDM 4-1 headers and high flow cat. That'll finish off my basic bolt-ons list. I figure that i'll be running low 15's with that set up. My goal for my car is high 13's all-motor. I was wondering if theres anyone on this board running CTR cams and running high 13's or have 185+whp? I'm not sure if i should go for JUN cams because i don't plan on raising my compression. Any suggestions to achieve 185 whp would be appreciated.
current engine mods: aem cai, jdm 4-1(soon), carsound high flow-cat(soon), apex n1 cat-back(soon)

with a lightened flywheel don't i lose some torque? and if so is it substantial? I also want my car to be tolerable to drive in traffic. what would 185 whp be running?

You won't get 185+whp with a stock compression.
Look into Spoon balanced JDM ITR pistons, then install the CTR cams, some gears, and at least the ITR v-train (maybe Portflow inner springs). The CTRs will definitely make power up to 8500rpm. You should be pretty damn quick.
High 13s are possible with 185whp, drag slicks and a trick driver.

i guess i'll have to raise compression
. I'm guessing changing out pistons costs alot of money yeah? What else do i need to worry about when raising compression? I'm not too familliar with clearance issues and everything. Should i go with CTR cams instead of Jun 2 or 3?
I don't have the money to buy things right now, but i'm planning on extensively modifying my car in the summer and i wanna start my research right now. What about milling your head gasket? What are the pros and cons to that?

I think the reason a lot of people go N/A is because they like to roadrace or autox and a FI set up isn't really to feasible if you are pounding the **** out of the car for laps at a time not to mention boost is tricky on a autox couse - boost spike

I re read the post and realize what everone was saying n/m I need sleep

i have thought long and hard about whether to go F/I or n/a. I know that f/i is the best bang for the buck when it comes to power, and yes they "can" be reliable if installed correctly, but how come i aways hear of stories about people blowing their engines and overheating, etc, etc....it just seems to much hassle for ME. This car is my daily driver and i can't afford for it to be out of commission for a few weeks to a month. Also another reason is that i want to autox and run my car on the track. I also love the high-revving. Anyways thats just my opinion. I respect either form of power.

You're right...I'm sick and tired of all this naturally aspirated bolt-on crap.

If it's HP per dollar, a turbo'll make you holla .... 6-7 psi will put you there with no problem...

majority of blown motors are self inflicted..not the turbo's fault...
Blown pistons ringlands <----
I didn't tighten a fuel line down enough....
I didn't make sure the battery cable was tightened down properly
I didn't adjust the boost controller my first time out and got crazy
it comes down to me being the problem.. but i have learned..
patience and learning are the best tools...
go turbo, I don't think you'll regret it...
Drag Gen 3.. and no real mods when turbo went in.
I dropped a fully prepped engine in after i blew the ringlands.. and have been boosting every since.. happily.. there are a few things that pop up on occasion, but any heavily modded car will have problems... just glad i've learned to work on some of it myself...

Everyone's gona flame me for this(you guys hate s/c), but how about a jrsc. I mean it give low end torque, and you wont even need to downshift for passing somebody. Someone mentioned road racing and autoX, and the jrsc is perferfect for autoX. It's kinda expensive, and yes you will be faster w/turbo, but for an everyday driver thats decently quick, I think a jrsc is a good choice.
Hmm, the install is probably a decent amount too. The problem is, my motor is feeling the burn right now. So I'm hoping if I go all N/A motor work it will get fixed when the better parts are put in. If I just throw in a turbo then I'd have to get my engine all checked and prepped before even thinking about driving. Oh yeah, and what are the chances of getting that turbo for the same price you did?

Damn, now that I did some research on it you jsut might have changed my mind. I should be able to afford that kit pretty soon. And with the other bolt on's I'm at it should put me close to 300hp. How much was your install?
