Motor Swap/ Emission Question
I always wondered about this question since the day my Si and my brothers Type-R got stolen. If someone uses a stolen motor to swap into there car... when it comes time to do emissions test or watever... Do they ever ask about the motor and where you got it. If the car is swapped do you have to show proof of receipt and where you bought it. And the engines on it have Vin # tags, would they ask where it is if it has been taken off. I am curious about this question since my cars were stolen and stripped and wonder how whoeva stole it are using my motors without getting caught.
They never asked me if i had a swap when i did my emission. I also had trouble passing the idle portion of the emission test. Theyprobably assumed i had a swap. They were pretty cool with me everytime i went back. I'm in WA.
But no worries for me. I have paper work for my swap.

from what i've gathered, every state is different. it tends to be larger populated states are more strict (ie. Cali), but sometimes they don't ask much.
I know plenty of guys that went through salvage inspections with B18C-R's and H22's nationwide that weren't questioned at all about the engines. All I know of were JDM engines, so its not like the VIN was on the engine anyways...
It's really sad, but to be honest, I don't think many people are questioned about their engine. Typically what they care about is the emissions on it. I hate even typing this to you cuz it's so rediculous, but theives do get away. Besides, I think the majority of the thieves are able to get around that VIN# problem anyways. Surely I'm not gonna say how, but it's quite possible.
