Default Is it me or does my GSR get really bad gas milage?

Ok, I just got this 4Dr GSR acouple days ago and I finally got to fill it up full with 89 octane. I been driving it for about two days since I filled it up and look at this

I drive only friggin 74 miles and the goddamn gas tank is almost at the half way point!!! WTF is up with this, I shift regular around 3K and only floored it once. My engine must really suck and need some major tune up. Here are my mods

LSD tranny
p28 ecu with skunk2 chip
DC Sport Header
Custom exhaust
MSD wires, Pro Cap MSD something, don't quite remember what it is.

I don't get why I'm getting such crappy gas milage. Any suggestions?

First off see what it says below the trip odometer? "Premium Unleaded Fuel Only"
89 Octane should not even be touching your gas tank.

As for the mods...as far as I know a header will decrease gas milage a fair amount. I went from around 25-27 mpg, to around 19-20 after i got my header...now keep in mind im a teenager and drive like one. I take it up to 5k all the time.

wow 89

and the more air that flows through the motor the more the ecu will add more fuel, so more mods = lower mpg

Yeah I think I am running too rich, cause I can smell that gas after I get out the car and open up the hood. I gotta bring it to a shop to run some friggin diagnostic tests or whatever u call it.

Well try changing your o2 sensor, and doping other tune up stuff. My old set up had cams, a mugen chip p28, and the whole list of other bolt ons. I would still get 35-38mpg on the freeway. Of course when my foot was in it you could cut those numbers in half easy.

</TD></TR></TABLE>exactly, i think that skunk2 program is giving him a more aggressive fuel curve, he's going to burn gas. and even though it's a financial issue, 89 should not touch his gas tank, that can lead to more costly problems later on. i just want to find out, is'nt that program too aggressive for the mods that he has on his car? can't his performance be optimized with that program and some cams and im?

Yeah I wanna know too, if this skunk2 chip is messing my shiet up, I'm gonna take it out, reset the ecu and sell this chip.

if you want performance, you'll sacrifice something. i don't think you should sell your chip. just add other mods to get the most out of it.

But dude, if I'm gonna get friggin less then 100 miles when my gas gauge gets to the half way point, there's no way I'm gonna keep it. I'll be filling this car up every 3 days and with the price of 93 octane, by the time next year comes around, I could of bought myself a b18c5 engine already.

overdue for your oil change? it could be one problem from a **** load of possibilities. dirty injectors, spark plugs, 89 is definetely a NO. The ecu is jacking you for your gas for sure, but no way there could be that drastic of a change from it. (imo)

i see what you're saying. but looking at your photo again, it seems like you're okay with the gas mileage even with your chip. you're a little over half but a little under 3/4. it seems like you can get over 200 miles on that tank depending on driving conditions, like stop and go, etc. the reason why i say this is beause i've seen other basically stock gsr's do the same thing.

mine does this often too but once you get to half a tank it will stay there for 2 or 3 days. its all about how the gauge reads man

Have you ever thought about tuning? Maybe its in your a/f mixture. Figure out how many miles you are getting to the gallon also.

89 ....skunk2 chip is made to dump gas in your engine. So that's no help. Is your rims over size? fuel filter change...do you have a fuel pressure regulator?

there's nothing wrong with 89 octane if he's wrong what he's running... (not sure of his chip fuel tuning though)... but on a stock gsr map.. it's fine.. do a search..

We really need to get a test-before-you-can-post deal on HT. Need to keep the illiterate folks out.

But in response to the question, I'd wait and see how far you get when the tank gets down to E. The gas guage has always been a little funny telling how much I have left. For instance, it'll fall much more quickly from Full to 1/4 tank than from 1/4 tank to Empty. Hope that makes sense. Wait til you are on E, then fill it up and divide your actual mileage by the number of gallons it took to fill her up. Good luck.

Oh yeah, and I'm getting just over 25mpg with a chipped P28 running my LsVtec
