Default Camera gurus please step in! Canon G6 vs. Nikon 8700

Hi guys. I am currently looking for a new digital camera. I have narrowed my choices between two cameras; the Canon Powershot G6 and the Nikon Coolpix 8700. Do any of you guys have any experiences with these two specific cameras? If so, let me know your opinions about them. Which camera is better, regardless of the price? Thanks in advance.
Here are the reviews of the two cameras:

Ive personally had the G6, and its a very nice camera. Takes clear shots, has many different option's.

Never OWNED the nikon 8700, but I have played with one at Bestbuy before, and the menu's were so complicated, I was sitting there for about 10 mins, and I couldnt even figure out how to adjust the iso or shutter speed

The canon's menu's are alot simpler, overall, id choose the G6

Goto Bestbuy, and play with both of them, see how they feel in your hand, than make a decision

Thanks for your input, midorigreen. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for it?

Since you posted up pictures and this is an A/C forum I'm going to say the Nikon because it looks cooler.

Well, my brother works at bestbuy so I got a good deal on everything, $588 for the cam, like 70$ for the 512mb memory stick, and about 50$ for a 4 year warranty, it came to about 780$ total

http://www.butterflyphoto.com has the g6 for about 575$ so thats an awesome deal, than you just need to get some accessories and what not

i work at bestbuy as digital image salesman. we dont carry the nikon at our store but we carry the G6. it's a freaking nice camera! i personaly own a G3 and it's a simple easy to use camera. i can see the the nikon is a 8MP camera vs. a 7.1MP. if you need bigger images. go for nikon. nikon is a good name.

You might as well fork out a tad bit extra for a 300d

I can get the G6 for 400 shipped, the 8700 for 430 shipped and the Pro1 for 440 shipped. I'll look up the 300D.

I couldn't believe the prices either, so I'll look up the customer reviews tomorrow. The website is bestchoicedigital.com. Do you think they are shady? I am kind of worried now.

that place could not be legit, they have the 300d for 450$

only way it could be legit is they are the grey market cameras, which tend not to come with the manual, charger, battery, and also tend to break alot easier

edit: i guess that site may be new so their not on resellerratings yet, but either way, i would not order from them, prices like that are too good to be true

edit again: i notice that site has the canon d60, if i remember correctly, that camera has been discontinued for quite some time now...

i wouldn't trust them.

they are from NY. unless you buy their "warranty" and a bunch of their accessories... they aren't gonna sell you anything legit.

stick to bhphoto.com or something

My choice goes Canon's A95, G6, then the 300D.

In my opinon, the only Nikon worth owning is a D70. Canon has all their other cameras beat of the same class, and at a cheaper price.

Also, I wouldn't bother with a G6, unless you plan on using add-on lenses or you really need the few extra features it has over the S70, which is near identical and like $100 cheaper.

i work at future shop which is best buy's sister store in canada i know both cams and played with them both it's not all in the megapixel the gets the image it has a lot to do with the lens canon had been making lenses for over 20 years so they do know what they are doing. nikon does make a good camera to but the menu's are more difficult. Canon's G series cams are really good. as far as the pro 1 i hate it that camera the shutter design is slow and the zoom function is terrible it's not a manual zoom it moves in an automatic fashion it's gay. plus for the difference in price between that and the G6 not much difference i would go G6 for sure.
