Default Master Cylinder DEAD?

I have done a search of the posts here and haven't really found anything that seems to directly apply to my situation.

I can press the brake peddle down lightly, maybe the first 1/4 of the way down and the brakes grab just fine. After that the peddle just sinks right to the floor, not applying anymore pressure to the rotors.

There are no VISIBLE leaks in the system, I do understand there may be internal leaking going on, but i bieleve that if this were true I would notice a drop in the amount of brake fluid in my resovoir.

I haven't tested my brake booster yet because i am unsure how. I can look it up that isn't a problem, just looking for some ideas before I start to rip things apart possibly making things worse. I can't imagine it is air in the line, my esperience with air in a brake line is that you have to pump the peddle a few times to regain pressure, i have pressure right away, but it isn't maintained if i apply the peddle any further than 1/4 of the way down the peddles span.

Let me know if you have any other ideas.

Get a new one.

I have replaced mine 2 times and just picked up another one, due to the current one has another internal leak.

No. You would only notice a drop in fluid if it was leaving the system somewhere, which of course would be an external leak.

An internally leaking master cylinder does just that - it leaks within itself, without losing fluid.

It is definitely not the booster. If the booster was bad, your pedal would be rock solid; to feel what the pedal is like without boost, just pump up the pedal while the car is off.

A bad master cylinder is the most likely diagnosis for the symptoms you described - I'd personally just go ahead and replace it. It is not too difficult, especially when you have a bleeder monkey to help you

Bleeder Monkey = person in car to pump the pedal to pressurize the system then you open the valve and let fluid/air out. . . Over . . . And Over again.

Had to help people who don't know.

i would bleed it first too though.. couldnt hurt and it might just be air.. always nice to check free stuff first.. make sure you bleed with the car running and start with the one farthest from the master cylinder (rear passenger) and work your way closer..
