Default Importance of the engine stiffner AKA trans/block support AKA flywheel cover

I'm thinking about picking up one of SMSP's older style headers where the ITR trans to block support brace (AKA engine stiffner) must be either modded or completely removed. For those who've modded or removed the brace, is this piece an intergral part of the car? My car is mostly setup for road courses so I'd obviously like to keep this part if it's a functional part of the drivetrain.

Any input is greatly appreciated since I plan on picking up the header tomorrow.

it is there for a reason..
the arguments in the past were kinda laughable.

what about getting the GSR braces and swapping them in for the R unit?

Did some quick searches on the forum and didn't find anything of substance, care to link me? TIA.
