Default Engine makes loud noises when cooling down.

downJust bought a 2000 Type R. Engine only has 40K on it.

After driving and i turn off the engine. I can hear fairly loud clicking sometimes clunking noises coming from what seems to be the engine bay. Only happens after driving and the car has been turned off.

Does anyone know what it is or had this problem.

Some say its the heat shield bolts contracting, but it seems too loud to be that!

HELP

I believe it's a hen-weigh problem.

Dude....every car clicks and or pops after being turned off. It's not a problem. Metal expands when hot and contracts when cooling down.

My R has done it since day one. This guy is gonna flip when he hears the Typ-R "MoooOOO"

It sounds like items like the heatshield and/or header are cooling. They contract when they cool and will buckle making those loud snapping sounds. My best advice is to check all your exhaust system (header to muffler) nuts and bolts to ensure they are tight. Any looseness will cause shifting/buckling which creates these loud noises.

most commonly it is oil dripping back into the pan once the motor has been shut off.

its just the different expansion and contraction rates of the block, head (hottest part), and cast iron header. Don't worry about it, every car does it.

too lazy to read right now,

the ticking you hear is probably just the metal stuff cooling down, and contracting. metal expands when it gets hot and contract when it gets cold.
