Default Anyone using the Quaife steering rack yet?

I see it available on the Quaife site and was wondering if anyone has done this or currently using one that can comment on the installation/modification and characteristics of it.

I've got a handful of them in stock, and Brian Hasty from Fastbrakes is installing one in his k24EG right now, we'll try to keep you updated..

Can sombody confirm the presence the pressed on pinion bearing?

When I e-mailed quaife, they said it doen't come w/ it. In contradiction, somone one here said they know for sure it does...

WTF?

Curious too.

Anyone disassembled a steering rack before? Manual one doesn't seem to difficult.

His car continues to sway me towards the K24.

its not fast enough, what like 2.8 lock to lock verses stock 3 not worth it. I ran a 1.5:1 steering quickner in my eg wich made it 2 turn lock to lock, it was all right but not fast enough, now i run a 2:1 quickner 1.5 lock to lock, Its so bad *** i cant even describe it. you have to run power steering though, and all the orfices have to be drilled out to speed up the power steering ram.

can you please explain how a "steering quickner" works? This is new to me, and sounds interesting. I don't like the added P/S though...

I have wondered this as well.

I would also like to know who makes these for Hondas?

i think they are universal you install them inline with the steering shaft or whatever its called. the piece that goes from the steering wheel to the rack. you just shorten that piece and install the quickener between it and the rack.

at least thats how the one i saw looked it was on an SRT4 rally car...

you have to remove and fabricate a new steering column, the steering quickner is a small gearbox with splined shaft on each end, one end go's to the steering wheel and the other go's to the steering rack, a 2:1 ratio quickner means for every one revolution on the steering wheel side of the quickner is two revolutions on the steering rack side, so if your steering is 3 turn L2L, now will be 1.5 L2L

So the addition of the P/S is just to compensate for the added steering effort.

yes, double the steering speed meens double the effort, and also takes the stress off the new fabricated steering column and steering qiuckner wich is very high without p/s.

Anyone checked the CCR or GCR to see if these are allowed?

i would be all over this for my civic if it wasn't illegal for SM. if they change the lower subframe allowance, i will install one as i can lower the rack in a custom subframe, but until then i will have to contend with an integra rack.

According to the fastbrakes website, it brings it from 4.2 down to 3.2. That is a big difference. Not sure where you got your numbers from.

BTW, the Quaife unit that is currently available for the civic's are only available for manual racks.

The 88-91 CRX is 4.1 stock down to 3.25, and the 92-95 Civic & 94-01 Teg is 3.6 stock down to 2.81. This info is taken from Quaife's 2004 price list. I guess Fastbrakes doesn't have their info right...

Have a look at the Quaife site. They list the 88-91 new parts as being 2.8:1 and the 92-95 at 3.25. Boy, I hope thats right, though I know they (Quaife) originally told me the opposite.

http://www.quaifeusa.com/suspension/suspension.htm

And the 88-91 EF stock is 3.88:1 for the manual rack. I also think you might be thinking of the power racks for the 92-95 when you say 3.6 stock, as I'm pretty sure the manual one is 3.88-4.1:1.
