car purchase scam? please take a look!
i've heard of this scam where someone offers to buy your car and they send more money than you're asking for the car and then they want a refund. i received this email regarding my R for sale on autotrader.com and it obviously follows the outline of the scam. can anyone explain to me how this scam works?

GREETING aaron
Thanks for geting back to me.As i informed you in my last mail,my client have instructed that the check should be made out to your name provided that you will send the balance back to the agent through MONEY GRAM
INTERNATIONAL TRANSFER and deduct the MONEY GRAM charges from the balance so that he can be able to pay the shipping company and also come for pick up.That means that payment will get to you in cashier check of
$21,999So you are required to deduct cost of your car $15,999 . when payment gets to you and refund balance $6,000 to the agent's via MONEY GRAM. After payment has reached you and balance sent back to
him,so that he will come for the pick up and drive to a prepaid shipper to be shipped to my customer, whileTITLE PAPERS and other necessary
documets will be handed over to the agent at the time of pick up.
Please Confirm this and provide NAME, ADDRESS! S and PHONE NUMBER for check payment to be delivered to you
via fedex courier .
Thanks and God bless,

Yeah, so what would happen if you had them send the check, but never sent the car...? The same thing happened to my dad when he was selling 3.5RL, and if he hadn't asked me about it, he might have gone through with it... I told him to lead the guy on, tell to him send the money, take it the bank, never send the car, and see what happens... He ended up selling local anyway...

I have 3 checks at my house, 2 for ten grand, the other for 7500. They are counterfeit, but still look kinda cool. They never responded back after I didn't send them the extra money, surprise surprise.
