Just picked up my 1995 GSR, temp won't climb past 1/4...doesn't warm up, HELP!
Just picked up a 95 GSR, 2dr red, leather, with blizzaks on separate rims, and all the dealer serviced receipts.
Runs and drives perfect, but the temp gauge stays cold. It moves a little bit, but not much. I drove it home 30 miles, so it should have gotten to around the half way point. I've got another teg so I know how the gauge should look.
It doesn't smoke, and I can feel heat through the heater, plus the gauge does move a little so it's not like it's not hooked up.
Anybody have any ideas what the culprit could be? Faulty thermostat perhaps?
HELP!
This is as hot as it would get, even with some 8k beat down runs:

I think I have the same problem with mine, but I also have a full fluidyne lumy rad.. so I dont know if thats the problem or not
bump for help too
bump for help too
I'm sure somebodies had this same problem. Don't want to spend any money on this beast if I don't have to.
bump.

simple way to check is as follows
when car is cold open the rad cap and start car.
if the coolant in rad flows that means that your thermostat is faulty.
you should only see the flow when the car is hot...
but you dont want to see that right.....

I'd check either the thermostat or maybe the temp gauge is off. Find someone with a gauge cluster you can borrow and hook it up and see if it does the same thing. I know when I put my white faced gauges on my needles were off some. No biggie cuz I know everything was fine.

What do you mean, "flows"? If it over flows?
I did notice when the car was idling cold, when I popped the radiator cap, a bunch of coolant came out, like it was under pressure, although it wasn't hot enough where it would be. Weird. Keep the suggestions coming!!

Nothing to worry about, I went through 3 guages and a thermostat before i relized that integras usually read lower. Ive had mine for 3 years now and it never went up to half normally, it always just sits at either 1/4 or 1/3, depending on the outside tepm. If it starts overheating it will show, i had a bad radiator hose which was leaking coolant, and it eventually started to overheat a bit, i noticed it right away since the needle moved up towards H, and i saw a bit of smoke coming from underneath my hood. Anyway, its just how some integras read the temp, nothing to worry about.
flows= coolant movement
if the ther is good the coolant will not move at all until
it actually opens when its hot then it will flow
dont forget all sensors operate better at a certain temp.

I'm on my 3rd Integra, I know where the gauge should sit, and it's abnormally low.
Good point on the coolant flow deal and the open thermostat. I'll have to check that in the morning.

glad to help...
also check the rad cap that helps cool the car also
but im pretty sure that you have stock cap..

MY 95 LS does the same thing...im not too worried about it until the summer and if it dont climb up then...then itll become a problem...it should be ok tho....
I have a 95 LS SE and my temp guage only reaches like a 1/4 too...but thats normal in hot weather.....in colder weather sometimes it sits at like 85-90% to the C spot.....
i dont worry about it as long as my engine runs fine.....plus i check my radiator fluid most of the time and its always full.

I dont know, mine was heating up but would then go towards the cold mark whenever i started revving the motor. So I assume its a thermo, go get an autozone special, put it in, **** does the same thing. So its like...what could it be? Not much to the cooling system....so then i read on here that somebody else bought an autozone thermo and said it was worthless. Went to honda today, bought a new oem thermo, put it in....now the car wont go any higher then 2 bars toward the warm side. Tomorrow Im going to bleed the coolant, reset the ecu and try again. After that Im going to put in a new temp sensor and then on to a new thermo switch....it will be back to normal sooner or later.

Id hafta agree! mine has always been like that......and when my radiator went bad, the needle moved up towards H to let me know!.....i only have a 7 mile drive to work, and sometimes in the winter, my needle doesnt even get to 1/4 way by the time i get home!..... you should be fine!

I don't know if this will help much, but that is exactly what my temp gauge stayed at from the day I bought my car! It doesn't go up more than a quarter unless i'm doing seriously heavy auto-x.
Even with that, it never goes over a 1/3. Check your thermostat. Replace it anyways if you haven't recently - its cheap.

I thought it was normal, my cars been at the 1/4 mark for 2 years. When I sit there and idle after a drive in the parking lot or something my gauge goes up half way.
Also using my heater lowers my temp.
Dont know if my car is messed up or what

that's is kinda risky...i would replace the thermostat, bleed the system, and flush the system...tempertature sensor could be a target..
