Car won't go into gear when its started. Grinds...its like the clutch won't disengage.

What might it be boys?

bump...help me figure this out. I don't want to pull the tranny and not know where to go.
Hydraulic? Try bleeding? It could be external. How much does the shift fork move when you pump the pedal?
How about listening real good & pinpointing the location of the squeaking.
After ruling out external (easy) stuff, it might be a bad pilot bearing.

Start the engine with the tranny in gear, clutch disengaged (pedal down). It's making the noise, right?
Release the brake; does the car try to move? If so, that's a dragging clutch or pilot bearing.
Hold the clutch disengaged; shift into neutral. Does the noise stop? Better yet, does it sound like it coasts to a stop? The clutch or pilot bearing drags the input shaft up to it's speed.
Since you have to remove the transmission for this, you may as well get a new clutch, pilot bearing, & throw-out bearing.

what happens when you start the car in first gear with the clutch pedal engaged? I had a similiar problem before. The clutch was gone, I broke a spring with too many launches... debris from the broken spring acted to keep the clutch engaged SOMETIMES.

</TD></TR></TABLE>Then you'll see what it is. Basically, a warped disk, seizing pilot bearing, or springs falling apart in the clutch or PP; they all sorta cause the same problem. Maybe hearing the noise firsthand someone can tell the difference. But since you gotta pull the tranny anyway, just get it all.

Well, just so you now...there is a noise like...squeek-squeek-squeek-squeek-squeek... really fast and it gets louder when the clutch is engaged. We'll find out...thanks so much for your input.
