speedo problem please help!

I recently purchased an 1988 civic with a B16a swap in it. The dash works fine except for the speedo and the odometer. I am pretty sure they are disconnected but I don't know where to check.

Check to see if there is a VSS in the transmission period, the prior owner may have cut a few corners if you know what I mean.

where is the VSS located in the tranny

Transmission near the rear mount, directly underneath the intake manifold, give or take a couple inches.
