Default skunk2 cams on stock comression??

sup everyone. i got a b18c1 with stock compression. i was thinking of getting skunk2 spec B cams for the engine, but i heard that it would be a waste to do so with stock compression. can anyone shed some light on this? i was told they would not make much power difference than if i went with some spec A's. obviously higher compression means more power, but can anyone give more info on this? is it worth it to get spec b's on stock compression? thanks

that doesn't really give me any info. how effective is it to upgrade cams on stock gsr compression (10.0:1) is it even worth the $400+ that i will probably be spending?

you will not make full use of the cams. but if you plan on bumping up the comp. it will be worth it down the road. btw, you WILL loose low end for shure

so what's a good cam for stock compression.... actually, it's gonna be a lil bit higher than stock. i'm gonna be going stock compression with a spoon head gasket which will bring it up like .2-.3 for a total of 10.3:1. that's basically like stock, but a lil better. so which cams will be best for that? i'm trying to get a good, powerful set of cams that i will get full advantage of those cams. any ideas?

why dont u wanna build the block with some pistons? u will defintiley see more power from the cams with High Compression pistons. u can get either stock type R pistons (P73), Civic Type R pistons (P30) or USDM B16 (PR3) pistons (not too sure if they'll fit, but i think they will) to up ur Compression. the're not that expensive either. i just baught a brand NEW set of stock honda PR3 pistons with rings and wristpins for $90. u just gotta look for the deals.

cams will give u HP no matter what. adding pistons to the mix will hep those cams out even more.

Where did you get a set for $90 with rings? Was it some one time deal or homie discount? If you know where to get them in oversized let me know. My cousin desperately needs to re-reing his car. But it probably needs to be bored so he'll need new pistons.

PS sorry for jacking the thread

nah no deal, i was really lucky on ebay! the guy was selling brand new oem honda PR3 pistons cuz he bored out his block and he didnt need these pistons anymore. he didnt even list it properly so no one was really bidding on it. The bidding ended at $75.01 with $15 dollars shipping. i love ebay!

i wanna get the car some good numbers on the butt dyno, but not to spend too too much on it (if that's even possible). the labor alone for building the block is gonna cost a couple hundred bucks just to do some parts install. if i were to do it right with some JE's or SRP's and get the bottom end balanced etc. etc. that's too much for just a street running daily driver who justs wants to have a lil fun on the weekends. like i said, i just wanna get a lil more "WHOA" outta the car without spending an arm and a leg.

Throw a little n2o on it. As long as you know or have someone that knows how to jet it and tune it right you'll get years of good use out of it. And no camshaft on the market will get you 50 hp just that easy.

yea, that was gonna e the last piece of my puzzle. i was gonna build the engine a slight bit, and top it off with no2. basically here's what i had in mind.

i/h/e
in. manifold
valve springs, rets
cams
ecu flash
smaller head gasket
nos

with this i figured i would get a pretty decent "WHOA" and it'll last a good while without blowing something cuz the engine wasn't built properly.

anyone wanna take an EDUCATED guess as to what hp range this setup would put a b18c1 at?

Tuned properly I'm guessing 180 to the wheels. Add a little laughing gas and you'll be in 210 range(DEPENDING). That would be pretty good for a street honda. Not spectacular but enough to have some fun with mustangs and the likes.

i don't think anyone has fully answered your questions about stock compression + Cams. im also really curious to know everyone's opinions on what cams would be good for a stock compression, because i am planning to put cams in my GSR soon also.. i am also planning to leave the block stock for now.

So Once Again... What cams would be good for a STOCK compression GSR??

I am not sure what this would cost, and come to think of it I don't recall if I've seen any posts about doing this on a honda head, but here's what V8 guys like to do...

if you are going to have the head off to put on a gasket, why not take it to a machine shop and have them mill it? that will reduce the size of the combustion chambers without having to get new pistons.

but like I said, I don't know for sure if this is good on a honda since I have no idea what the clearances are between valves/pistons, not to mention the cams you are adding probably have more lift. just figured I'd throw that out there for the smart people to figure out

you can make some nice power on CTR or ITR cams. however, you can get
better results with the sks1 cams. steer clear of the stage 2 grind on stock
GSR compression. if you stay with the dual runner manifold and tune it
right on those cams, you can have 180/130+ with a VERY responsive motor
with basic off the shelf IHE on top of that if you wanted to squeeze
in a 50-60shot I think that would be fun too I wouldnt do more. personally,
im not into the idea of my sleeves stretching.

CTR cams would be a good choice. I am thinking about going with these in my 96 GSR.
