Default Installed AEBS IM and 64mm Big Bore LS throttle body **UPDATED w/pics***

Damn I just got done installing an AEBS IM and LS TB....what a Pain in the ***!!! It seems there are a few differences between B series USDM and JDM. I also installed a ProFab IM gasket and let me just say this...if businesses are going to charge $35 and more for a piece of cut plastic they should at least get the damn holes lined up right. I don't think it'll seal all that well with a rigid gasket that's buckling. I chose to use this gasket w/the stock gasket on the head side.

As for the TB gasket...I used an ITR gasket which worked fine. I trimmed it to open it up a bit and match the inlet. Eliminated FITV, bypassed throttle body defroster, and used a GSR fuel rail. Speaking of the fuel rail, I found that it didn't need the 3 washer/grommets underneath the rail like the stock 1st gen B16 rail does but this means that the threaded pegs won't work either so I had to use bolts to bolt the rail on. I used this rail because it has the FPR on the right end of the rail instead of the middle so there's plenty of room for the relocated IAT sensor. HOWEVER, the throttle cable bracket does hit the sensor connector! I dremeled the bracket a bit and rotated the sensor upside down for more clearance...problem solved. Then when I tried hooking up the throttle cable to the LS TB, I noticed another problem. The throttle cable pulley on the TB is backwards!!! yet another obstacle to curse at. I had to swap pulleys with my old TB but it seems like the cable is too short for it??? The butterfly is slightly more open than it should be. I don't know yet, as I haven't started the car. About the only thing that did go right was the MAP sensor. You don't have to extend the MAP sensor wiring to the TB, the stock wiring barely reaches if you pull it out of the loom. I'll let you guys know how it runs tomorrow. I'm tired as phuk.

Here are the pics:

Hmmm no I didn't. I figured it wouldn't be anything new. I just started her up and she runs but now idles at 3K RPM!!! I've heard of this problem before. How did you guys solve this? It seems the Type R style AEBS manifold shifted the throttlebody more to the left therefore decreasing the slack in the cable and the cable is holding the TB open. I hope there is enough adjustability in the cable to drop the idle

Couple things.

If you want to do it again and use a very nice gasket/heatshield set. http://www.outlawengineering.com

For the throttle cable, adjust it at the bracket. Thats the only place you are going to get slack. Otherwise, you'll have to figure out moving the bracket around, or modifying it, to get the slack you need.

Alright, adjusted throttle cable until the assembly was hitting the stop on the TB. I also found a couple of leaks! a couple of the block off caps were too big for the fitting and 1 fell off. I also installed the TB gasket backwards which caused a leak but everything is cool ow. THe idle is at 1500 though which is a little on the high side for me. The TB idle screw is all the way in too. I'm thinking I may have to loosen up the stop screw on the TB. BTW, is anyone connecting the breather hose or just running a breather filter?

Can you tell how you by-passed your FITV? I mean which hose went where. Thanks!!

Since there are no provisions for the FITV at all with my setup, I just used some inline connectors to hook the hoses together. In this picture...

You'll see the white inline connectors where I bypassed the FITV and the throttle body defroster lines. It would be cleaner to just use a single piece of coolant hose but I just coupled the existing hoses together.

I want to add that despite having a Profab plastic intake gasket AND OEM gasket sandwiched...the IM still gets pretty hot. The heat is still transferring from the studs. Perhaps it would be a better idea to insulate this area with grommets or something...hmmmmmmm.

Nice job.

I need to go abes/64+mm TB soon.

My 1st gen b16 TB and IM is choking my poormans-R off.
