Default 99' CBR 900 RR is it worth it?

Im looking at getting a 99' 900 RR. I took the bike for a 6 hour ride yesterday and it ran great. Its the first sport bike ive ever riden so im not to sure if i should wait to buy a new one in 5 months. the only bike ive ever owned was a Suzuki DRZ400 "dual sport". now that ive riden the CBR i no longer want to ride the DRZ, in fact i cancled my insurance on it lol. i cant believe how much fun it was, i was riding with some friends and i tool the bike up to a little over 150 mph on the freeway with no problems. the only thing im concerned about is that the bike has about 19800 miles on it. i know for a car thats not much at all but for a bike? the engine seems to run clean and smooth but how much can i exspect out of it? is 20K high miles for a bike?

my 99 cbr 600 has about 22,000 miles and runs fine. any bike will run fine as long as you maintain it well on schedule.

since you at least have some riding experience, the 900 probably isnt too horrible of a choice... but i'd say take it easy on those high speed runs man. you have your whole life to ride, take it easy first

It also depends on how the seller took care of the bike. Mileage means nothing if you don't know how it was cared for.

well first off, the oil is CLEAN! so it has been changed at least one in its life time. the body isnt perfect but close. the who had it before was using it to do stunts, but there are no frame sliders and no signs of it being droped. im trading him my 03' KLX-400 which has a kelly BB value of $4000, $1500 cash and a pare of almost new Alpine star Tech 6 motocross boots. i bought them for $280. KBB lists the CBR for $5740 so the trade, to me seems worth it but i was just concerned with the 20K miles on it. can i expect another 10K with no problems? right now there are no bad signs other then brake fluid that liiks 2 years old and a chain that looks like its the original one that came with the bike.

wow that was a quik reply, thanks for the help

P.S. about the 150 thing, the other 2 people were riding a 03' GSXR 600 and 03' 750. i know i was speeding, there were no other cars for a mile or so, i figured hey im probably going like 115 or so (that fastest ive ever gone in a car was about 115 perhaps 120) but to my suprise after backing off the throttle for 3 sec or so i looked at the speedo and saw 147. OMFG for the rest of that day hours later i stil couldnt believe it... it was a one time thing, right now i have a perfect driving record and i intend to keep it that way...

i'd say do it for a straight trade on your bike. KBB and actual market values are two very different things. you should not have to add cash to this deal. 900rr's have 3 generations of newer bikes ahead of them, prices are in the ~3-4k range. not to mention the mileage on that bike in high in comparison to others on the market. ~$5700 will get you a nice 929rr with much lower mileage.

i wouldn't trust ebay either. even if it meant i would save a couple grand. but the trade, i'm not too sure about. doesn't really seem like you're getting all that great of a deal, but decent enough if you're in love with the bike. i dunno, i'd personally rather get a bike that has normal mileage on it than one with super super low miles. i take that as the owner probably did a good bit of fwy commuting, therefore he must have taken care of the bike. lower mileage, probably just took it around the neighborhood, stunting, redlining it, and maybe didn't keep up with the maintenance as strictly since it mostly just sits there. i dunno, that's just me.

Yea, nothing wrong with using ebay but look for bikes in YOUR area. Then email the guy and tell him you want to check it out. If you want it then do the transaction there. I have bought and sold a few vehicles on ebay and I haver NEVER finalized the transaction over ebay. Cash for title is how I prefer to do business.
