question for tall 4g civic/crx racers
any tall people that run an ita/h4 or itc/h5 4th gen civic or crx, how do you have your seat mounted? sliders with a side-mount or custom fab work? im trying to get my seat in as far back as possible, but i dont think a slider will go back far enough.

Don't feel bad man...I'm a good 210+ lbs and right now I'm squeezing into a Sparco Sprint Jr. Don't ask me how...but it works and once I'm in, it's fairly comfortable.
Travis had a thread about his seat mounting, I don't think he was contending with a length problem as much as height though.
My guess would be that you would either need to mount side mount brackets to the floor behind the front crossbrace, or come up with a custom braket that would carry addtional rear bolt points and allow you to set your sliders further back on the bracket. Either way, sounds like a fabrication job. I'm 6', and three of my freinds are over 6'3" and fit alright (tight on helmet space) utilizing stock seats, but with the aftermarket bolt in options you can build height very quickly with sliders/adapters.

Yeah, it's kind of a bitch. And I'm only 6' 4". I'll try to get you some seat mount photos later in the week.

I'm 6'3'' and drive a CRX. I have my seat mounted directly to the floor but the front is on the that factory reinforcement hump. So, the seat ends up to be reclined. This is perfect for me. I had to fabricate some straps and re-enforce the floor by the right rear of the seat. The floor was way too thin and flimsy (sp?) there.

I just jet a botttom mount seat like the Speed ect and use the solid floor mount. There is 4 holes in the bracket. I put 2 washers between the braekt and the seat and use the rear 2 on the bracket to bolt dirrectly to the seat base. Then I use metal tabs to connect the other 2.
It's a lil far back for the perfect position I guess but it's close enough

I forgot to mention my steering wheel setup is adapter + quick release which brings the wheel back closer to you. This keeps my harms bent while driving and haven't notice any arm fatige (sp?).
I'm 6' and with my Del Sol seats on custome sliders I can barely see over the dash , when I put my new seat in it will go even lower.
you arent too tall , you jusy dont have the correct / ideal setup.

This would be ideal I think. Basically puts the seat on the ground and as far centered as possible. It's about as good as your going to get I would think.

I'm 6' and change and have struggled more with head room than leg room. I think a lot of it has to do with your build rather than your height. Some people have a long torso or long legs. My seat is mounted like ITACRX's on that front hump with a slight recline and it's just about right. The main issue with getting the seat back more is the location of the cage elements. You'll need a very tight main hoop on the driver's side so as not to interfere with the seat, and you'll need to position your door bars and cross brace accordingly. You might have good luck with Kirkey seats as they seem to allow for more bending/modifying to make them fit in funny areas (like too far back). The seat mount is going to have to be custom as there is no good mounting point in the front behind the cross brace. I would suggest you "modify" (pound) the two rear seat brackets on the floor and weld two flat bars back from the front cross brace down to the floor as far back as they will attach. That gives you an infinite number of places to drill mounting holes as far back as the cage will allow. It will also recline slightly.

I dont find it to be necessary , a reinforced floor would do the same thing , weigh less and take less time.
and if you guys are that tall just get a bottom mount seat and bolt it to the floor

My Integra had the seat mount frame attached to the roll cage. This worked very well.
However, for the Civic Mark (at Kirk) fabricated a reinforced mounting area and welded it to the car attaching it to the side sill and the center tunnel. It uses 1.5" DOM and 1 inch square stock as the seat "slider" rails. The seat bolts to these rails and can be adjusted by simply loosening the bolts. This puts the seat pretty much on the floor of the car, maybe 2" off of it.
I know Walt Puckett does the same thing in many of his cars. It appears to be a well proven approach. Maybe he's done this in Adam's new car?
I don't have any pics and frankly I'm too lazy to yank the seat out to take them.
I'm 5'10 and have lots and lots of headroom in the car. Blake Meredith, who is at least 6'3, maybe taller, has driven my car without any issues. The added bonus is that the seat isn't too low for Renee, who is 5'6.

same thing as in my car, right? You can kind of see it in the original pictures of the for sale add...

Of course, I'll have to try again, but when I gave it a quick whirl, it seemed like I was going to have some fab done to mount my side mount Sparco in there....

yea, i dont have much of a head room issue. all the issue is legs. i know ill have to run a removable wheel and hub extender to get the wheel closer, but ill do it if i can finally get my legs in a comfortable position. right now im dam near driving indan-style! looks like the consensus is something custom. even if its floor mounting with reinforcements.
now, for reinforcing the floor, what would have to be done? welding in plates on teh top and bodom of the floor pans?

Well I wasn't even considering this. I was comparing more to a standard rail/slider set-up, but yes this would work as well obviously. I guess being 6' 7" would have it's disadvantages in a Civic/CRX. Are there any distinct advantages of attaching to the cage?
I sat in Sean's car and I felt like a little kid and asked where he hid the phone books?
I liked it.....

I'm 6'4" and I have a Momo seat mounted right to the bracket, doing away with the slider. Having the slider put my head too close to the roof. No slider gives me a nice fit.
I may go directly to the floor on my next seat
