Default Throwing codes in 89 Rex with 01 GSR

Swapped an 01 GSR into my rex. Everything is in and wired. Have the Vtec wired to the A8 pin and grounded. Tested the VTEC solenoid and it is working. Also throwing a 4 for crank position sensor. But 2 different distributors are throwing the code and I know 1 of them is good because we took it off of a running car that isn t throwing any codes. Any thoughts???
