what to change when removing pan
I'm trying to figure out this intermintent noise coming from my motor. We thought it was the valves, checked the valvetrain and did a valve job..No dice..Next is pulling off the oil pan..What if anything should I replace with it off..I'm wanting to do the oil pump gear if needed. What brand and where to purchase?
All the bearings were replaced when I upgraded pistons..Also, if nothing is found there as the source, next is the head..Anything I should change there except a new head gasekt?

It's real hard to describe the noise. It's not valve tickinig like I thought and it's not thudda, thuddda noise..It sounds like something rattling..you can't hear it at idle and the noise doesn't get louder in relation to rpm..It's only present when throttle is applied..It's there sometimes, and others it's not..My mechanic said my valve springs and retainters looked fine..Very irritated I have to pay for all this labor to diagnose, but I can't run it hard until I find out... I would probably be able to change some bearings and the oil pump gear with the pan off..
humm....I have a similar problem. Whenever I go into hard throttle I hear a rattle. I haven't bothered with it since im lazy. I figured it had to do with increased load on a bad pulley. Tonight I will guess i will go out and try to diagnose it. I will let you know what i find out.
