i need a new dizzy,, so, i found a dizzy that comes wit a msd cap and rotor, and a external coil and coil plug wire for 100 dollars from a friend, my question is do i NEED a igntion box to make this set up work, i dont knw much bout external coil systems ne help would b appreciated

 

for the external coil, no you dont need a msd box. you only need the msd box for liek 2 or 3 steps

 

not sure what the other guys reply was about, but no, i do not believe you actually need to use the msd control box to run an external coil. what you will need to do, however is extend the positive and negative wires inside the distributor to reach the external coil, so you are going to have to do a little wiring either way. you also won't get the full effect of the msd coil without the msd box. but i'm sure it can be done.

Basically you can run any kind of coil you want I've seen people run the stock coil outside the distributor cap, why they did it I don't know but I have seen it.
