Nor Cal Honda challange Race at Thunder hill
My motor blew the other week so i couldn't participate in this NASA event. But since i live fairly close i dicided to go and take pictures and support HC.
I got out to the track fairly late becuase i was sticking around waiting for a call to go check out a new motor. well the call never came so i left got out to the track alil late. I had met John thawely on friday, very nice guy. and i walk up to his car and this is what i see.

Apparently he rolled in the qualifiing lap. But was not harmed at all. I did hear what happend but didn't witness it or see it, so i will not say what happened thawely will Chim in though and let everyone know what happend. Like the true racer he is, he took all the windows out, went and got it re-teched and passed and raced it like this.

some random photo's from sundays race

derick and brianZ battelin it out

i was standing at the stright going into 15, i noticed a double yellow come up, then a short while later all the HC guys came bye, but without brianZ. i thought hrmm maybe he spun waited didn't see him. so i took off back to the pits and this is what i see.

He was also unhurt. glad to see that cages are doing there job.
here is thawely

first lap

ill have more pics up later, and there will be some AWSOME video
same area - exit of T1. It was just wet enough for their tires to 'dig in'. Happy that they are both OK!! A bonus is that both cars didn't get that much damage.
Brian looped it driver's left on Sunday. My teammate, Derek, said that he saw Brian's rear license plate sliding left in his mirror.
Thawley did his on Saturday. I am unsure of which side (right/left) since I was on track & stopped for the red flag. Went right into the pits when the session was black flagged.
I can't wait for the videos. We had great racing in H4 both days. Very tight with a few place swaps.

I watched BrianZ's onboard video of the roll last night. What a bad break. It was a small mistake, but it cost him big. It looked like a great race. I know he was disappointed to be out of it ... especially like that!

I'm a what? Do I have to learn to drive right side up AND speak "homie" to run HC?
No time for gory details (maybe later in the week), but here are a few bullet points:
• two wheels off on the exit of turn one
• tried to save it (bad move)
• Tank slappers back on the track, led to...
• sideways in mud
• dug a wheel and rolled in mud
• landed softly, upside-down in mud
Highlight of the weekend: Tom Lepper's crew providing killer track-side repair and stylish graphics.
Low-point of the weekend: Realizing that I forgot to put the video camera in the car before I rolled it.
Thanks to all the NorCal guys and NASA stewards. Killer event; great people.

So the final rolled cars this weekend is 3 for California. A SER cup car also flipped at Buttonwillow. It rolled 3 times at very high speed and totaled the whole car. The driver was not hurt badly but he said he was sore. Also he was wearing a HANS device which saved his life. Time for me to order one before everyone else does for 2005 season.

They let you run without a winshield?
Sorry to hear bout the car, glad you are OK.

my understand is that they had to remove the rest of the windows too, effectivly making it no different then a open air race car

All I can say about that race is that I am really excited to see the comptetion level that is appearing in Norcal H4. That was some seriously close racing. You would have thought that there were championships on the line.
I can't wait for the opening round next year. If I have a job I may have to participate more often. The plan right now is to bang the Acura straight again and team with my dad.
It's too bad that BrianZs mistake was that costly. When are we fixing your roof Z?

The last roll of the weekend was this one:

I can't comment exactly on what happened as it was dark and I couldn't see turn two where the incident happened but our car had just lapped the 2nd place car when they both went into turn two and only one car came out, not ours, then 30 seconds our car came out. It was too dark to see the damage from the pits. According to the flag stations they said it rolled 3 times then drove back onto track.
We pulled the windshield off in the pits, which was super hard to do, and the car was able to finish the race in second place.

There was apparently one more at Buttonwillow, as well. NASA director, John Linsey's SE-R had some help going thru/over Magic Mountain and rolled three or four times. John is said to be sore but otherwise alright. I have not been able to locate any photos yet.
Looks like a few of us will be pretty busy over the winter.
WANTED: Enthusiastic crew members with limited skills and low expectations. Body work experience a plus. Please inquire at the email address below. Fame and little fortune will follow.

That weekend was great! I could no believe how close everyone was even after 13 mins into the race (that is all I made it)..
As for fixing my car, im going to make sure the tub is strait still. After going 75+MPH sideways thought the mud on one side and catching and rolling on the other side I want to make sure the suspension mounting points are ok.
if its ok, I may replace the roof.. we will see soon!
But watch out next year :-)
here is a few things I hope not to see again
