I know a bit about audio, have a decent setup in my car..
But i saw a headunit I really liked and thought of a really silly question and figured I'd ask and get results in already predicting.. Flame me if you must but I'm just interested..
Could you put a CDA9833 face plate on a CDA9815 headunit and have it work properly?
I pretty much figure its impossible and I'm not sure if the connectors are even the same but I was hoping some guru could shed light onto this subject...

This looks promising.. could the color change feature on the 9833 be used on the 9815 if i put a 9833 face plate on a 9815 head-unit?

The faceplates may be interchangable, and you may get all the functions of the lower end HU, my question would be why do it, as you would have to get the higher end HU to get the faceplate, or pay almost as much to get the faceplate as a part, or support a
and get a hot one that some poor slob forgot to remove from his car.

looking at the two - I would really doubt that it would work....
The 9833 and 9815 display completely different items on screen - the 15 head has those horizontal bars on screen, the 33 doesn't, etc.
At first glance, I wouldn't say impossible, but highly doubtful

IIRC, that 9815 has blue illumination.....
you can swap out the leds on the circuit board for a different color - I know people who have done this to get to blue illumination - the only concern would be - are you able to do that kind of detail work, two is the color of the button determined by the led or are the buttons on that model tinted, three can you get orange leds
probably more work then you are looking to getting yourself into, but it's an option.
