Default Best beginner bike?

I am seriously thinking about bying a motorcycle, although I have very little experiance riding them. I want a CBR 600, but which one should I get (F3, F4, or F4i)? Which one is the most friendly and would make the best beginer bike? Price is a concern, albeit a small one.

f3, f4 and f4i are all made different years. depending on which year you get will determine which one of these u get. they're all pretty much the same type of bike, with the f4i being the newest design with fuel injection. if you're set on a cbr 600, then get a used one, since you're going to drop it.

Like most used sportbikes, 9 out of 10 f's that I've seen have had the **** beat out of them. Take a "good" look at the prior owner and have the bike checked out. You may want to think about a SV650, I think they've been around for like 3-4 years now. A buddy of mine just got one (an '01) and I was very impressed with it. I started out with an "old" school Interceptor many moons ago.

If buying used would it be better to look in an autotrader/news paper, or a used bike lot? Would a bike from a used lot come with any kind of gaurantee or warranty?

*. also if you drop a f2, dont worry, you can only add to how ugly they looked. the f3 is nice, and the f4i is, well, beautiful
kris *

Huh ? Other than the headlight and ram air ducts the 2 and 3 are identical . They're all good bikes , but even an F2 is more bike than a beginner needs - for a 600 SS its a very forgiving bike but its still capable of 150 mph and 11 second quarters ( more than enough to get you into trouble ) . If you respect the bike , you could do fine on just about anything but every beginner makes mistakes and the likelyhood that you will drop whatever you chose at least performing parking lot maneuvers is high . I'd recommend finding a used EX or GS 500 , possibly a Seca II or Bandit 600 . If you absolutely must have a 600 , I'd go with the FZR or F2/3 - Katanas are great bikes but everyone ***** on em for no good reason ...

DONT GET ONE WITH PLASTIC!!! I cant stress that enogh. If you are new to riding, chances are you (or one of our friends) will lay the bike down. Also HP and newbie=death\pain\hospital. There is no reason for you as a beginner to have a 100hp bike. Get an older something with less than 4 cylinders and LEARN to ride on it. Then as you progress in your riding abilities get a larger, more powerful bike. That way you dont kill yourself and you have something to look foreward to. My first bike was a 1982 Honda FT500 ASCOT. 1 cylinder and roughly 22 hp. I still own it in fact and its a blast! You dont need a CBR of any flavor right now.

Best beginner bike: Kawasaki EX500 (now sold as a Ninja 500). The EX250 is also good, but underpowered.

If you're just a beginner...MAKE SURE YOU GET PROFESSIONAL LESSONS!!!!!

Secondly, start off with something small and work you way up once you get comfortable...

I think you'll get bored of a 250 after a while....
a 400cc is a good size for a beginner... small enough to keep you out of trouble but fast enough to keep you shitting you pants....

GOOD LUCK!! and Ride safe....

just remember.. even a kawi 250R will prolly run low 13's to high 12's stock... that fast and nothing between you and the rock hard pavement except for the clothes you are wearing... on second thought i bet 250R's run consistant 12's... i think they redline at something like 14k... sheesh

man, my bike is a 750 and sometimes i wish i started with a ninja 500. the 750 has more than enough trouble to get away from you. we're talking about 0-60 in under 5 seconds. i didnt know what that meant, except now i can tell you my biceps are stronger from trying to keep me on the bike when use more than 1/4 throttle in 1st-3rd.

the 500 would be more fun in the twisties cause you could roll on the throttle without worrying about it getting away from you (as much). i am below 1/4 throttle 95% of the time on my bike, and still passing anything on the road. (except figment)

Thats incorrect, the 250 only does like 14 second quarter miles. Its still got enough power to get you into trouble, but it just doesnt have the hp to run those times. In fact, a 250 ninja will top out at about 110 mph.

funny...so many opinions about what you should ride and how soon you WILL drop it....not a single person asked you about anything like: how big you are (85lbs vs 350), what type of riding you are looking to do....other personal experince (are you a world class bmx champion or pro clutz), etc etc...all this has a lot to bear on the size, type and age of the bike you will be most happy on....I know plenty of people whose 1st bikes were brand new 6's and 1ks and they never dropped them and learned to ride quite well. I wouldn't recomend and aprillia RSV Mille R
or anything...but the right people can be happy with new larger bikes to start off with...depends on who you are. personally my first bike was an RM80 when I was 9....

They just never told you they dropped them There are two types of motorcylce riders. Those who have, and those who will drop their bikes. If you never droped a bike, your not really a rider or ride enough IMHO)

tell that to my father...he logs about 30k+ miles a year on his harley and hasn't dropped it in as long as I can remember...except a dear that he hit but thats a different thing. and he's a very agressive rider. and just for the record, I never said that I never dropped a bike in my life, just that it was possible (if you ride with your head and not your *********) to buy a new bike and learn how to ride it without dropping it....

Buy a CBR 900 and learn how to ride. If you respect the bike and relize that you are a beginner. You should be fine. Anything below a 750 just bores me. Best way to learn how to ride IMO is on the dirt. If you reck its no big deal.
