Default Any Mitsubishi gurus in here?

There is a guy in my neighborhood selling a Mitsubishi Galant (1st gen I think) for $1500.00. My question is how can I tell if it's a VR4 (all emblems have been shaved it appears)? What I can see by just looking at it is that it has 4-wheels disc brakes, 5-speed, no sunroof, and a decal at the base of the rear window that reads "Active ECS". I asked the guy that was driving it and he said it's his cousins and that he is just borrowing it (has dealership tags). Appeared he was in a hurry and I didn't want to ask him to pop the hood. If this is indeed a VR4 I might just pick it up for **** and giggles. Any help is appreciated.

That's what I'm trying to find out . 4-doors+boost+winter beater=

Some pics that I just snapped off real quick:

First thing to go if I end up buying this car is this sticker.

Notice the "Active ECS" decal here?

Nope, that's not a VR4. I think it's a Galant GSX.

Like I stated before, it might be a GSX meaning it's AWD.

Stupid question. How would I determine if it's AWD?

its not a GSX, they never existed. there is no such thing. what youre lookin at is a mitsu galant GSR, yes, mitsu did it 1st. it has fully electronic andjustable suspension (ride height and stiffness) but its only 2wd. cool car for 1500 if it runs mint and the shocks still work. has the mitsu 420A engine (2.0 liter 16 valve). hope this helps

Thank you sir Hmmmmmm ponders what he should do. The body looks to be in pretty good shape, and the interior is very clean. I'll have to take a closer look at it.

There are GSX's...lol. They are non turbo AWD Galants, they have the NA 4G63 in them.

Correct me if I am wrong.

well im guessing galants are normally FWD but if they do have an AWD version what you can do is look under the rear of the car and see if it has a differential between the rear wheels.

there are galant gsx's . awd 2.0 non turbo. you can tell by looking underneather the rear of the car and if there is a differential (a sphere in the middle of the axle) its awd. if it has ecs it might be a gsx, or it could be the 2.0 n/t galant

Nah I don't want to get into that. I did notice that it has a pod in the middle of the dash that appears to be related to the suspension somehow. Thanks for all the info. guys

Sure I'll see if I can get his info. Did I mention he wants $2000.00 for it?
