What to look for when buying an integra?
Hey guys, I'm lookin at pickin up an integ. probably anywhere from 95-98. Just wondering what the problem spots are on this car and what i should look for when buyin a used one. Oh also how many miles have you guys heard of these engines gettin. i'm lookin at gettin a GS-R BTW.
Check for oil leaks around the head, ask to see paper work for anything that's been worked on or added to the car (things you can't see like pistons, rods, etc..), check the trunk for water (the hatches tend to leak on a few), and make sure you test drive it. If everything looks good and the car drives nice then get it. If not then there's 1,000,000 other Tegs out there to buy.
A common problem is interior leaks.
Check for condensation in the headlight and taillight enclosures, pull the carpet in the back and check the cardboard for signs of water damage and look inside the spare tire well.

You lookin for a project car? If so, don't worry about anything except accidents, just replace everything else.
Just check the basics, do a compression test, check the brakes(how much is left on the pads) ask how often oil was changed, etc. . .

uh check when or if at all the distributor or ignitor has been replaced...
and make sure the radiator doesn't leak... they're common on new tegs to go bad cause of the plastic end caps, so ask if it's ever been replaced...

as far as body condition. check the rear quarter panels for surface rust around the wheel well, this is common on cars with a sunroof, and a carfax report wouldnt hurt either. if the (stock) bumpers dont have good fitment chances are its been in an accident. also check under the hood where the fenders bolt down, if you see different color paint or you can see the bolts have been removed and reinstalled the car has been hit probly. also inspect the oil pan and trans bell housing, and mating area for head and block for moisture (leaks) while the car is dry. if you do it after a rain or a carwash leaks wont show as well. when you drive the car take turns with the wheel fully turned both ways to check for sounds in the axles and power steering units. also check for white smoke out the exhaust, that alone could mean a bad head gasket.

alright, thanks guys. I'll definetely check for water leakeage as i know a few people whos integ's leak. Oil leaks too. What about mileage though. I know most honda's are good for quite a few more miles than most american made cars. What kinda mileage do you guys have on your integra's?? and what have you heard of people gettin outta their engines?
It all depends on the previous/current owners. If they take good care of it like my boy did you'll get over 190,000 (his is a 94) with no probs like he did. I only have 65,000 on my 99 and I haven't had any probs yet either.
