where did you come up with that BS?? home audio is not always 8ohms or greater. i have 4ohm speakers.
if home audio is 8ohms and you hook up some 4ohm drivers, please explain to us what is going to happen.

ok back topic. lol..
one time i connected my dual 4ohm idmax to a 4ohm stable receiver and nothing happened, as in nothing bad happens.
likewise, impedence changes when your change frequency so it's never always X ohm.
how long u run the amp and how loud will affect the life of the amp or receiver.
car audio in homes. defintely doable.
come to think of it, i need a plate amp for my sub. $30 for a 25w is good enough for me. buahahha

i blew my CAV-180 when i connected my type-x components to it and played it loud. guess they dont like 700W of real power.
they sounded increadibly smooth while they were playing though.

the only thing the PC PS was good for was the headnuit. othe than that, no amp. lol. Even then, the headunit can't be turned up high unless the PS has loads of ampere.
believe me, i tried. Much better getting an DC to AC convertor.

Why would you use a DC to AC convertor? Do you mean AC to DC.
The 12 volt line on a PC power supply is very weak.
In order to run any 12 volt system that use a lot of current the AC to DC convertor would cost more than a nice home reciever. The only cheap way is to hook a battery up and a charger. Kind of ghetto riging it though.
Most home recievers are built for 8 ohm speakers. Most home recievers will shut down at high volume when trying to play 4 ohm speakers. Some home recievers have a switch on the back for 4 ohm loads.
So yes its possible but seems kinda silly.
Did you recieve your amp?
