Default Header wrap on intake?

Iv'e seen people wrap the intake tube with header wrap. What is the purpose? Does it help keep the heat from the engine bay from heating the intake air? How much would this help?

Keeping the intake air cool helps with power output on any motor. Header wrap would help some but it is designed more for keeping heat in an exhaust. The wrap that looks like aluminum foil on the outside with other insulation on the inner part of the wrap would be better suited for the intake tube as that type of insulation is designed more for shielding against heat. I believe Summit/Jegs sell this type of shielding in a sock like piece a couple feet long that just slides over your intake tube.

Take the picture's url from properties and paste it into your reply. Then just highlight it and punch the image button. Voila!

The attempt to shield it from engine bay temps seems to be the aim of header wrap on intake tubes, but the wrap is not cheap, and hence many people upt to just paint the tube instead.

It's a JPEG on my desktop, not a web link.

You need to upload that picture to a host like wetodddidracing.com and then place the copy of the url you will get once it is uploaded between the two img symbols when you post.

Yeah, the best stuff (as someone mentioned previously) to wrap your intake is NOT the itchy header wrap, they make a specific foil with a sticky back that is made to keep heat out--as opposed to keeping heat in...
