what happens if the cam sprockets are off??? good or bad???
Okay, today we reinstalled a timing belt on my h23vtec with a buddy of mine who has more experience with engines in general, but when he was putting the belt on, it looked as if the intake sprocket was fine but im thinking the exhaust sprocket was retarded by one teeth, but he said it was good. Engine starts up and and idles fine, but after you rev it, the rpms will drop real low to 400rpms for a split second then chokes a little too. Now im wondering what would happen if that cam sprocket was off?? is that what happens or does it do something else?? Any help or suggestions would be great, thanx.
It's good!
Actually if it's off by one tooth it won't do anything physically bad other than possibly screw up your power band. Why don't you fix it? If it's off by enough teeth though you can start bending stuff.

I really want to fix it, but it's a real bitch to get to especially cause it's in a 91 hatch. but you're saying that just having the sprocket off by one teeth will not cause that problem right? If it's not the sprocket doing it then im not gonna play with that sprocket until i find what's causing the chocking.....

First recheck the timing marks with the timing cover off before you take the whole thing off. Check vacuum lines, check connectors on iac and tps sensor.
