Pics of destroyed ITR head, Forrest gump does a cam install....
Last friday I was able to get my car back running finally after replacing 2 bent valves due to my timing belt coming apart. It drove great friday night and saturday night. Sunday during the day, I go to crank my car, battery is dead , so cody comes over and we jump it off, and notice the Tbelt is flapping. We attempt to tension it using the well proven coat-hanger method, but the tensioner wont budge. I get a uhaul towdolley(thx visa  ), and get it towed to a friends house. We install a new tensioner/tensioner spring, belt is still flapping. Tonight, we decide to take out the exhaust cam and install the other B16 cam, thinking having 2 b16 cams would be better than the mismatched B16intake/Toda B exhaust cam setup. We take off the valvecover and notice a dark brown coloring ontop of the intake cam cap cover(see pic). Both our jaws are open at this point, b/c it looks like someone had a bar-b-que inside the motor. We remove the camcap covers, and notice 2 of the 3 cam caps........are on backwards(which blocks the oil passage holes).
When we removed them before taking the head off last week to install the valves, we took them out and placed them just how they were in the motor, I installed them this way. I'm not sure if maybe somehow they were fiddled with(by people inspecting them) and they were replaced in our little container thing the wrong way or what, but I took them out of there and placed them in the head just as they sat in the little container thing. We remove the camcaps and also the little covers by the camgears/distributor areas, and notice lots of damage on the underside of them, and also damage to the intake cam(that of which i was borrowing  ), and also damage to the exhaust cam(Toda B). I am pretty sure the improperly installed cam caps were the cause of the intake cam breaking during install a few days ago, and also the cause of us not being able to get good tension on the timing belt. Hopefully my valvetrain is salvagable but I wont know till I remove all of it and inspect it for wear/damage. I am currently working on getting a GSR head that I can get for a really good price, seeing as how I have no job(or car to get one for that matter). Hopefully sometime next week I will be able to get her on the road again.
Brace yourself for the pics......

No, its a $130 Power Enterprise belt. Its fine since its only got 70miles on it.

thats ugly
so i guess this is because the cam caps were installed backwards which block the oil supply to the cam journals right

damn, that sucks. i'm about to take my head of soon, i'm going to triple check the retaining caps before even start to car. i would thought that honda would engineer the caps to only go on one way. did you have to force it on or anything?
so my guess that the cam caps were on backwards as a possibility was right after all.
sorry to see that man.
I've been when you are.
try to persevere and find a competent installer.
shiny jdm parts are no good if you let sponge bob install them.

Isn't there dowel's that align the bars that bridge the cam caps and the cam caps? (Been a couple weeks since I assembled a head). Also the little arrows and numbers make for quick checking to ensure they're on the right way.

That is really nasty! Sorry
For future reference, the cam caps have little arrows that point toward the timing belt side of the engine to help you install them correctly. They are also numbered.

Do you have something against Sponge Bob?
Brett, sucks about that mang. I've managed to install them backwards before. But luckily I rechecked it before I tightened anything down. The key to a good install is to check, check, and double check. It's easy to reverse those cam caps. Just follow the arrows.

yep.
Hey man, you need to think positive about your situation. Now that you know what caused your problems and what went wrong, you will be able to PREVENT this from happening next time. Learn and move on man.
