Hi guys,
It's getting to that time where I'm gonna change out my temporary 91 LS tranny and replace it with a JDM cable tranny. I read the FSM on the tranny swap, and since I did the engine install and assembly myself it should be easy enough to figure out. However I wanted to know if there was enough room in the engine bay to R&R the tranny with the intermediate shaft still bolted to the block. Has anybody ever dropped their tranny this way?
Also another question I had was about JDM trannies. What JDM LSD cable tranny will work with my 91 Teg LS Exedy clutch and 90-93 Teg axles?
TIA

why do u want to leave it bolted up? its not a big deal to take the intermediate shaft off as well. i dunno if its possible or not to take the tranny off without taking the half shaft off first, but i certainly don't suggest it.
while your swapping out the tranny u mine as well think about a few other things, such as main seal, upgraded flywheel/clutch ... ect..and make sure you lube everything you are supposed to on re install.
good luck

Well, one of the three bolt holes that secure the halfshaft to the block might have gotten messed up when I did the initial install of the motor. If I take the 3 halfshaft to block bolts out, they might not go back in again. I may end up having to helicoil them into the block or something. The tranny would have to be pulled away from the block 3-4 inches until the halfshaft is all the way out. But I dont know if there is enough room for that.
If I have enough money to spend I might get a lightweight flywheel too. The Exedy clutch is still pretty new with only 3000 miles on it. But I just need to know what trannies the clutch is compatible with since the clutch is for a 90-91 Teg LS.

I don't think there's enough room to do that. Even if you pulled the strut rod out there's less than 3 inches of room to move the tranny side to side. At least in my CRX there's not and we have similar setups.

Damn that sucks...when I do decide to swap out my tranny I guess I'll get some helicoils in case my halfshaft will be hard to put back on.
