Default For all of you who live in california...

How do you guys make modest power while still being able to pass smog? As far as i know, the only header for a 5th gen prelude that has a EO number is the DC, and i am NOT going to own one of those. Do you guys have smog hookups or have you found some legit ways to pass visual and emission tests while still making decent power?

More recently, i was looking into buying a 4th gen greddy header and modding it fit my 5th gen SH, but after looking at the carb website, the header will only pass the visual for 93-95 (obd1) preludes. I just would like to hear some of your stories. Thanks guys.

put stock header on, get carbed. go home, revert back to non stock.

or have a friend in the business that can get you the stickers.

Or register your car in a rural county that only requires smog upon purchase...

goto minority shops, most dont do visual checks and only care about sniffer (and find ways for u to pass that too i.e. spraying mists of water into intake while running test), seriously people make smog/bar seem more of a hassle in cali than it is, from what i read virginia is way worse

we dont have carb in va. only safety inspection. all they check for is brakes, cat, blinkers and windshield wipers.

I'm glad i dont have smog in TX, I hear its soon to come in 2006 though...

would my H23 pass smog w/ just an AEM cai, DC header, high flow cat and invidia exhaust?

it's all about the tune and the parts. if it runs good and everything is in order and it's not a fully built high CR monster, then you can pass. if it's a high mileage clunker from an old beat on GSR, unless you have a buddy, don't expect to pass.

Even if it runs great, if it doesn't pass visual then that is a moot point...

you need to find some shady smog test center. for me when i bought my car the guy owns a smog center and said if you ever need it to pass a smog come down here. but jrsc are legal but other than that I haven't even thought about passing smog yet tho...

Hank, ask the question over at BAP. They can tell you where to go.
