FYI: i drive a 1994 honda prelude vtec

Ok heres the scoop...over the past couple months some weird things have been happening to my car...First off i installed a CAI a month or two before all of this happened, my car sounded great and loved the sound of my vtec, but the sound has increasingly become less defined and more of just an intake sound, ok so first on my mind (air leak?) i listened for leaks when revving engine etc. nothing. Then, my check engine light came on for a week when i get up to about 50 mph, and only when i get up to that speed (o2 sensor? other sensors?) But went off when i restarted my car.

Then after i filled up my car with gas (coincidence?) it went away a lil after..For some reason i think it may be my oil; reason being is because i'll be driving around and my vtec does engage i feel it to the same effect...however the sound is not there at all, i mean i could library talk louder than that (its really that bad) then i go and drive on the highway at 4k+ rpm and i get off and its loud again!!! until i shut off my car and mow or what not and drive back, is my dino oil sludging up? is me driving on the highway taking that h2o out of the oil?

I really need help right now my car is driving fine now just vtec isnt loud one bit. Please PLEASE PLEASE help me, its really starting to concern me to the point of taking it into Honda and getting the cpu hooked up. ANY kind of imput is greatly appreciated and thank you for reading all of this.

 

Check that cel. Also, check the obvious things like plugs, discoloration in oil, compression test to start from there. If it's just a matter of vtec not engaging, check your oil levels too.
