I came around this corner with my 5th gear engaged. I tried to down shift to the other gears and it just stayed in 5th. I pulled pulled and pulled on it ...no luck. What kind of things should I be looking for in this situation?

 

Can yo move the shifter into other gears but the tranny doesnt engage? Did you hear a snap or anything? Could be your shift linkage

 

no snap. It just stuck in 5th gear, no snap or grinding. It used to pop out of that gear for a day. Then after that never happened again

 

I had plenty of tranny fluid

 

Does it come out of 5th with the engine off?

 

nope

 

Provided the linkage is functioning properly, and you can get it in reverse, rev to 2000 or so and pop the clutch. The shock should disengage the 5th gear synchro sleeve.

 

The car is kind of disassembled. When it was stuck in 5th gear. I tried to get the car going by reving it high. All it did was make this sound like a "vroooooooom" in the tranny.

Is it possible to pull the axles once it is stuck in 5th gear? I am having trouble on the passenger side.

Being in gear will have no affect on axle removal.
