Default Will Ziebart do right by my accord?

I made the mistake mentioning to my local Ziebart's guy that my new Accord comes in next week.

He started salivating, and immediately asked "You didn't get the dealer paint protector package, did you?" I said "no ,but I'll wax it myself"

He yelled, "NO!" and starts rambling about waxes are a hassle. "My 'Diamond-Brite' exclusive paint protector will give your an incredible shine that will last 5 years!"

He claims it will hard resin shell that not even a machine hard bristle car wash can scratch. His price? $300 (US). Should I do it? Sounds suspicious to me. I hear Ziebart's doesn't have the greatest reputation in the US. Gus

Personally, I do not buy into that sealer crap. I simply wash and wax my car as aften as possible. When I had my Audi, I had it sealed. A year down the road it appeared streaked and hazy. I am not sure about Ziebarts sealer they ar using, but personally, I would say no.

i don't know about their paint protectant, but their undercoating really does work well... my Audi was driven in the salt and snow for 16 years, and had only one little rust spot (underneath behind the driver's side rear wheel)... however, i opted not to get the undercoating on my Accord b/c i don't plan on driving in the salt and snow (my tires say "no me gusta").

I would not get it.If you going to wax your car a lot, then it's not worth it.I don't belive that 5 years stuff.I work at a detail shop, and there is no way a wax or sealer will work for 5 years....

You work in a detailing shop? Surely you guys must offer something similar.

I just got an e-mail from a representative at "Tough-guard" (doesn't he take Christmas off?!?)

I had asked him if his sealant (similar to Diamond-Brite) could be re-applied to the same car. That question is very important to me, because if it can't be re-applied (and I intend to keep my Accord for 8-years), then what's the point?

He said: "it all depends on how clean you keep your Accord". What does that mean? He won't answer. I get the feeling it'll ruin the paint in the long run like silicone polishers do. Darn!! The hope of no-waxes for 5-years really had me fantasizing.

I detail and rustproof cars for a Honda dealership. I painted sealed my accord at work, it repels water better than anything ive ever used before and lasts longer than any other wax or sealant ive ever tried when shopping retail like everyone else. Not to mention the shine is much deeper than any other product ive ever used.

During the winter when the weather is harsher (atleast here in the northeast it is) and waxing your car alot is not an option because of the weather conditions, then I strongly recommend using a paint sealer to protect the paint. During the summer when the conditions are much more paint friendly waxing frequently will do the job. My personal experience with paint sealer has been nothing but positive, in my opinion (take it for what its worth) paint sealer is head and shoulders better than a regular wax in terms of the longevity of protection and the durability of the shine.

What would you recommend is the best paint sealant? The problem I have heard with silicone paint sealants is that they wreak havoc with the car's base metal and cause air bubbles to form upon repainting.

I'm thinking about Teflon, but the manufacturer's themselves have told me it's critical to keep your car free of dirt at all times, because on a sunny day, it could get baked into the Teflon coat (dulling your shine).
