Understeer friggin' suck Donkey balls!!!
So I nailed a curb last weekend when I turned the wheel sharply in a hard corner. The wheels turned but the car didn't. Now I sit with the poor mans tow out and have to hold my wheel about a 1/6 of a turn to the left. The front right tire stick out about an inch to the right.
Now I sit here and try to contemplate how this could have been prevented, Is there any way that anyone here knows of to make an eg civic coupe oversteer instead of understeer. What Iv'e done to help so far is-
Skunk2 springs
Tokiko Illumina 5 way adjustable struts (set to the stiffest level)
Tsudo camber kit
17x8 tires (Yokohama paradas up front and Wanli s1000's in back)
Megan front strut tower bar
JIC magic lower rear tie bar
sparco harness bar
What more can I do? Any help would be mucho appreciated.

a fwd car will ALWAYS understeer. you can tune it out somewhat, but it is just the nature of beast. sounds like you made a mistake entering the corner.
check for some bent parts, replace anything that is needed then get an alignment.

i 2nd that... also, never break going into a turn. this is really the only way i see your wheels turning and you continuing straight. something has got to break your car's momentum to pull your tires loose. now there are other factors, such as slick pavement, yada yada yada... or even going too ******* fast (see quoted reply). and everyone is going to make a mistake at some point, its what u do to prevent that mistake from happening again that counts. (once again, see quoted reply)

Actually, braking hard in a turn will often get the back end loose on you. Front drive cars like to plow out of the turn when you are going to fast or are still on the gas. Usually if you let off the gas you'll pull out of the slide, if it's not to extreme.
sounds like this dude was just plain going to fast though.

the very way that bar is made prevents it from being a structural member.
anyway, quit ******* around on the streets, you won't hit curbs.

Dumbass... Stop trying to be a hardass and impress people with your "skillz"....Which obviously are non-existent.
You deserve to drive ghetto **** now.

Learn how to drive. Regardless of how you describe it, it's your fault for not knowing the limitations of the car.
You'll be even more of a danger to others with an oversteering car so I'm not about to help you accomplish that.

Last time I checked, not driving fast on the streets is a good way to prevent accidents. Understeer can be changed through suspension adjustment to promote more neutral handling. You're still an *** for thinking you were on the track while driving around town. Sucks for you, you live you learn.

Mine doesn't. Although it is tough to get a FWD to handle without understeer, it's a federal safety standard that all cars sold must understeer; so they're set up that way from the factory. Could you imagine what would happen if this kid (or any other idiot driver who doesn't know his limits) had oversteer in his car while careening towards a curb / guardrail / kid running into the street after a ball?
Back OT, if you want it to oversteer (not that I recomend it for the OP, he should get to a school or an autoX) there are a few things you can do. This is just in general, it took me a lot of time and trial and error to get my car to handle neutrally or oversteer.
- Big *** rear sway with a tiebar (prevent chassis tear)
- Performance springs
- Higer rear spring rates
- Adjustable shocks - rear set mostly stiff, front 1/4 - 1/2 stiff
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Either let off the gas or let off the brake. That will let the car correct itself</TD></TR></TABLE>
If you do this in mid turn, the back end will most likely snap around, which isn't much better. To prevent something like this from happening BRAKE IN A STRAIGHT LINE - never, ever brake in a turn. Your tires can only do 100% of one thing, they can't have max cornering grip and max braking grip at the same time.

Promotes quicker turning, also promotes quicker tire wear and darty reaction to any imperfections of pavement...toe out makes it sensitive, on the street makes you have to do steering corrections often.

while youre in the turn the toe in is more stable, while the toe out setting during a turn is itchy to give up.

haha, just yesterday while making a right-hander, i had oversteer to the point of no return. I have a 26mm front bar, 22mm rear bar, stock spring rates and agx set on 2 in the front and 1 in the back and running azenis. why did it come out? cause im an idiot...learn from your mistakes!!
oh yeah, if you want to really make the rear end loose, run really high tire pressures in the back. goodluck, and play safely.

keep your car the same (understeer) and slow down. If it oversteered in that same situation you'd be hitting the curb backwards. Learn how to drive.

Driving like a Dick is part of the fun. As long as you don't take someone else out, I don't see the problem. Shocks me to hear all the granny's come out when someone admits to doing something not quite legal (or stupid). You guys hop up your cars so, you can drive the speed limit?
Like a rear sway, bumping your rear spring rates up will crank up the oversteer. I had 550's in the back of my ITR and ended up with too much oversteer. Probably 450's would have been better. You have to have shocks that can control those stuff springs though. Koni yellows are supposed to be good for 500 lbs/inch

No, I take my car to the track. Yes when I was 19 I did some stupid things too. He asked a question about how he could prevent understeering and crashing into stuff. My answer is that he needs to learn to drive because understeering is by far safer when you lose control.
And yes I do generally drive less than 5 mph over the speed limit (a little more on the freeway).
