Default Proper way to maintain a boosted engine? Or just go N/A?

Hey,

I have an EH2.

Option 1
Swap in my buddy's fully built B20VTEC. It was built by Inline Pro. It's reliable, solid and only has 9,000miles on it. Right now it's putting down 196whp, but it's being restricted by the stock ITR exhaust.

Option 2

Build an LS, piece together a turbo kit, and boost at a conservative 10psi.

My biggest concern with the car is down time. I can't afford to have the car out of commission for days at a time because it's my daily driver.

However, my biggest goal for the car is raw power. I guess I need to know if, maintained properly, can a boosted engine be almost as reliable as an N/A one?

Anyone have some tips on proper maintenance under pressure?

how is that b20built. either way i think the allmotor route woudl be ur best bet. turbo cars are not very daily driver friendly no matter how conservative u treat them.

Turbo is NOT reliable. Thats all you need to know. You want reliability? Slap in a bone stock D16.

Ok, I understand that a boosted engine is not very reliable. Typically what sort of problems do you encounter within the first two years of use?
Thanks.

N/A is best :hehe:

i've been supercharged and turbocharged already, now i'm all motor....kinda.

being turbocharged is great and its a lot of fun. it gives you good power with just that one add on.

i'm all motor now and i like it. jdm gsr with some bolt ons and i hoping for 13's. i do have a bottle though, just incase i ever need it.

Cracked sleeves, melted pistons, bent rods, blown gaskets, blown seals, burning oil, burning coolant, overheating, detonation, and all other kinds of fun stuff.

Raw power and reliablity dont really go hand in hand. Unless your ready to fork out some serious cash.

Yup. Fast, cheap, reliable. Pick two. #1 rule for performance.

almost 200whp? id stick with the built b20. as for turbo, it depends how much you boost. boost 4-7psi and you should be trouble free.

You're going to get flamed for that.

Go all motor that way it is less of a risk and it will take less time to throw it together. Just incase I would have another car lined up or rent one if you can incase the swap doesn't go as smooth as planned.

Like BauleyCivic said, turbo is not reliable. Don't expect to have a reliable daily driver that's turbo'd. I'd go with the N/A.

Well I have to be realistic and sensible about my decision and understand that reliability is more important than power to me.

I think the B20 will suit the hatch very well. Around 200whp is an optimal number for a daily driver and it'll be all motor which will be good for autocross once or twice a month.

That's my little brother's car. I'm too much of a broke college student to have two cars.

Good engine management (No hacks or piggybacks) and tuning will make your turbo setup pretty reliable.. as long as you aren't pushing too much hp for your motor. [ Stock LS can handle over 200hp EASY ].

AFC hack.

The problem arose because I reused head bolts when I did my mini-me.

first thing first, whats a mini-me? second thing, in the discusion last night, someone mentioned something about having something sleeved, if this is done, does it increase the dependability of a boosted motor?
