87 or 91 for smog?
I need to get my 91 integra smogged next week and I am wondering if I should run 87 or 91 octane. I have heard some people say run 87 and others say run 91 + octane boost. Either way I'll replace the spark plugs, change the oil and warm the engine up really well before the test. any other tips on how to pass???
Run a bottle of "Guaranteed to Pass" through the tank. Just follow the directions on the back. Alcohol works well too for cleaning up hydrocarbons and NOx. Check your timing, excess advance will not only fail if its outside of the spec'ed range, but it could make you run richer.
I've always been told that high octane is better for smog, but only because it helps clean out the junk in injectors, valves, etc. I've also been told that it might raise NOx levels, since it burns longer. Sorry, I'm not a chemist to really understand it.
Really, the best thing to do if you are worried is to ask for a pretest first, and if it passes, then do a real test right there on the spot. No real chance of failure that way, though you do have to pay for 2 tests. IMHO, the extra $20 is worth the insurance. And if you fail the pretest, come back with a list of mods, and what your numbers were.

Hey thanks for the advice guys. Where can I get this magic "Guarenteed to pass" stuff? Sounds like some herbal drug test junk I've used before
BTW that stuff really works too.
