how do i check the codes on a 97 RL??
i know you can check your own codes on OBD-1 cars but what about my grandpa's RL?? he's very knowledgable with cars and used to restore wrecked hondas. can you jump the connection and have the in dash CEL light blink the code or do you actually have to take it to the dealer to get checked? if you can check it at home it would save him cash that he is spending to get it checked. thanks guys
You should be able to get it scanned free of charge at the dealership if it has under 150K miles. 96-97 Hondas and Acuras are covered by an emissions warranty extension recall. Any emissions component failure causing a cel is covered by this warranty so you can normally get it fixed free also.

Hopefully they have a quality scanner. If they do, write down the codes and post them on here for help or search for them to see what other people have come up with.
