Default run what you brung classes

with all the swapped boosted hondas out there, is there any forum in which you can actually get out and race? Maybe something classed by hp/weight ratios, etc.

Maybe you missed the very 1st thread of the forum???? And if your are already ready to race you'll be in an SPU/ITE type classed and probably get destroyed by stock car's and Cup Cars.

I just went to a run whatcha brung race in Japan. It was all for fun, no $5 (525 yen) trophy at the endo of the day, just practice, qual, race 1 & race2. It looked like fun. It was nice to watch and listen to the loudness of the frankenstien-cars.

Nope. And that's why I said if you already race you would be in an SPU or ITE type class and would get DESTROYED in SCCA for sure and MIGHT get lucky in NASA if nothing serious shows up. You would have to have one hell of a budget to be competitive and reliable with a Honda in this type of class atleast from my experience with what shows up and what kind of times they are running.

If he already runs ITA then he's probably aware of the above. Anything else would be like an HPDE group 3/4 type of deal. IMO unless you ran an ITE type of class, I have a hard time seeing the safety standards up to par. Like if some random organization bought out the track for a weekend and just had anyone show up and make it competitive racing would be worse then showing up for an HPDE with a 300-400whp boosted Honda. Even thought it probably wouldn't be to much safer in an HPDE, at least it's not (suppose to be) competitive.

yeah really my question was if a race prepped honda pushing 250-300hp would be able to be competitive

thanks

having never driven a turbo'd honda, i can't say for sure if it would be competitive; 3 weekends ago, the big dogs were turning 1:19s at summit point. the front runners were a pair of older speedvision world challenge cars, and a few new GT3 Cup cars.

could a fwd honda civic hybrid turbo on full race slicks go sub 1:19 at summit point? thats about 4-5 seconds faster than the fastest H1 cars now.....

reliablility would be a very big concern, too. the Porsches that are commonly running up front can run like that for 12 hours; i am not sure that a 300 whp honda civic could do that for 12 minutes???

it would be fun to see, though!!! who is gonna try to be the first???

I do remember a yellow Comptech S/C'd S2000 show up with SPU stickers on it for an SCCA event at SP some time this year. I don't remember seeing it run though.

I know that GT3 Cup car has turned a high 1:17- low 1:18's at SCCA events running in ITE against another white older body style 911 turbo that always runs SCCA ITE and turns equally impressive times plus if Sohyker (sp?) and those two cars show up, I just don't know if you could take basically a WC chassis prepped Honda like the DC2R chassis or even DC5 and even with running S/C or Turbo'd with around 300-350whp if the extra power would even be beneficial or not. Honestly what do you think a WCTC would turn there? 1:21-22's? I just dont' know if adding say another 100whp would be beneficial or hurt it.

Who's gonna have the budget to find out though?

Down here in California, the Touring Car Racing Association basically runs 2 race groups, over 2.2 liter, and under 2.2 liter. Each group is divided up by several classes based on modifications and power adders. After that, it's run what ya brung. There have been some very exciting races between cars that wouldn't run together in SCCA/NASA.
