Default ment to shift to 4th but hit 2nd......now having alot of ticking please help

Tonight i was cruising along in 3rd 7200 then shifted to 2nd...which was of course a big accident. I am asuming that i bent the valves which i am very scared of. I have never pulled a head. I am getting this ticking noise which gets worse as the rpm's go up. My main questions are how hard is it to pull the head an if i do have bent valves what am i going to need to do. I would asume i would need to buy new vlaves. The motor only has about 40k on it (h22). Yeah im pretty scared im only 17...if anyone could give me some info it would be greatly appreciated

thx

If you don't have a helms, tools, patience, and an experienced person (either in your head or next to you) helping you out, it is not a great idea to just go in with a socket set and have a party.

What I mean is the way you are asking the questions, you might be better off driving to a shop or sending the head off to be done for you.

Sounds like you bent some valves there, the head is fairly hard to remove, depending on your avaliability of tools, and since your valves are bent this may be a good time to get some aftermarket ones such as Supertech, a cheaper route is to just replace the bent valves with OEM ones, but you'll have to re-lap the valves, and since the head is off get it resurfaced, you're also going to need a new headgasket, all of your timing covers will have to come off to redo your auto-tensioner, going to be ALOT of work, I wouldnt attempt to do this yourself unless you REALLY know what you're doing. good luck with it.

I think i could get the head off....i do have the tools. I am wondering how much time is involved and how much money is involved for having a head sent away if i were to do it myself i could probably bring it to my school to get some help with it. I have turned a wrench befor but never pulled a head. Is there any sites that have a type of guide

Hey dan sorry to hear that, sounds like the valves. I'm in the albany area too, I have a gen 4 red H22. You live in albany too? You wouldn't happen to be one of the other many red gen 4's i've seen around would you....

Getting things apart is never the issue. It is getting back together from a pile of parts that was once your engine without a manual. Sorry about your money shift. A Helm manual will save you a load of money in the long run, since you have the tools.

alright i decided the first step is going to be the helms...i can either get a 90-96 manual or a 96-00, my car is a 92 with a (2001) h22a4

I think my best bet would be to just buy a used head instead of replacing the valves myself. And in the future i can build the old head up nice when i have the time and patience.

so would you guys say buying a used head would be the best idea for me?

thx alot

The Helms is model/year specific. Sounds like you are looking at the Haynes (which will be crap for a job like this). The Helms is $60 US & the Haynes is $14 US.

The Helms is the EXACT manual that the service technitions use at Honda.
