Please read!!...important question about VTEC
My friend and i was debating last night about when Vtec kicks in.
He says that the Vtec kicks in Twice, once at 3800-4000 (small one) and once at 5700 or so (big one)...I said it only kicks in once at 5700 or so
Now, i understand that alot happens before vtec kicks in at around 5700 (eg. shortening of air passage ways), but i really dont believe that it should be categorized as vtec kickin in!!
Please give your response!

Assure you friend that there's no "shortening of air passage ways" or "small vtec" on your ITR. The engine switches over to the VTEC lobes only once - and someone with a Helms will have to varify the exact RPM, but I believe it is approximately 5700 as you said in the post. You friend is probably refering to the secondary butterflies on a GSR. In that case, the VTEC point is 4400 RPM (again the switch only happens once) and the secondary runners open at 5800 which could be mistaken for VTEC because of the change in intake tone. HTH
I have noticed that there is a very small vtec boom in the smaller rpm range that you were talking about, but I'm pretty sure that that is not a vtec noise. Of course I've only driven my car 3 times so I dunno

I was under the impression that the B18C5 VTEC crossover point is 5800 RPM. It appears that the crossover point is around 6k when you're driving because the ITR tachs are off.
