Default Power Window fix??

Hey guys,
I own a 2000 accord, and out of nowhere all 4 of my power wins stopped working. I checkd the main window motor fuse under the hood, but it looks fine, and even replaced it with another one but still nothin. I also checked on the individual fuses in the inner door panel box, but they look fine also.

I called honda and of course they say "nah its never JUST a fuse, bring it in and we'll look at it for $100" well then WTF are fuses for??!!!

Anyone that can lend some knowledge or tips to try would be much appreciated.

Thanks!!
Jackie

They're right. Fuses hardly ever give problems on the newer model power windows. The power windows in your car are controlled by the multiplex unit. These are three modules that control various electrical components in your car. The test procedure for the multiplex is too involved for me to try and explain it to you. The one thing you can check is the power window relay. It is located in the passanger side fuse box. It is on the back side of the fuse box. You'll have to access it from under the dash. You might need to remove that glove box to see it. If it is ok, then a trip to the dealership will be inevitable.
One more thing, try turning on the windshield wipers. These are controlled by the multiplex as well. It might be stuck in the sleep mode and has to be waked up ( NO KIDDING).

Thanks for the response. Yep I actually have used my wipers since the windows stopped working, and it didnt seem to make a difference. bummer, that sounded like a good idea! Well since you guys seem to have your shat together about all this, what would be a "worth it price" to pay the dealership for whatever replacement part they say I need? Meaning, how much money cud I possibly save by not buying their part and looking on ebay etc... and wud it be worth the effort??

Thanks again!!

As I mentioned before, the multiplex system is very complicated, and it can get expensive in a hurry if you start throwing parts at it and they don't fix the problem.
But if you want a starting point, start with the driver's side master switch. It contains the multiplex module that controls the windows.

They range from $10 to RIPOFF

Personally I would take the switch apart and clean it. Most of the issues is that there is too much dirt between the connections. That ia normally what makes them stop unless you fry the board out.

Thanks. So is this the driver's side master switch that youre referring to? Is it fairly easy to remove and clean - w/out much experience? The car is already at honda, so if they tell me the board is fryed, what would be a fair price vs a ripoff price? BTW, my moonroof is also not working.

Thanks again.

I don't have one for that new of an Accord.

So you will have to hunt at your local bone yards. A good used price seeing as its that new is about $35. New I don't even want to look.

Good luck

From someone who knows some about electronics,

Fuses are used to prevent too much current from flowing through a circuit. When too much current flows it burns the filament creating an open circuit and therefore protecting the electronics from getting too much current.

Therefore.. if your fuse has burned out it could just be a fluke, but it is most likely due to some other problem which caused it to burn out. So if you replace the fuse.. it's likely it will just burn out again.

But fuses fail. That is why circuit breakers are better. When those fail you have nothing. Instead of fried out fuses with burnt wires.

LOL
