Default New. Just want to Weld Exhaust Basically.

Whats up guys. Never welded a day in my life.
But I just want one so I dont have to go to the muffler shop for a 20 dollar weld all the time.

Just for adaptor plate welding. Things like that. So nothing expensive.

85amps will barely weld two peices of metal together. When doing exhaust welds they often become weak from the constant heating/cooling these system undergo and weak welds crack easily then. I suggest using a welder like this..

I have used this exact welder and it was the best welds i ever seen a 110volt MIG welder put out!

There is a 300 dollar price difference between the 2.

I have a friend who welds exhaust for a lot of people and picked up a cheapo at walmart for 200 bucks. Been using the thing for a couple years without cracks.

I guess ill just find out what he has and pick it up.

Thanks for the help.

85 amps will be fine for smaller things. i did my exhaust for an 87 amp craftsman mig. i've made a lot of things with it and i've never had anything break. i welded 1/4" brackets to a 1/4" sheet of steel for my table top and i beat the hell out of it all the time and nothing has even changed with the welds since i've made it. as long as you know how to use it and get good penetration its just as good as a bigger machine. the bigger machines youre just able to weld thicker metals. i get full penetration on 1/4" steel with my 87 amp machine only turned up 3/4 of the way. just go slow enough and turn the wire speed down. the machine you listed will be fine for you. if you get half penetration with a 150amp welder and half penetration with an 85amp welder theyre both going to be the same thing

Thats a darn good welder for small stuff that ExploitedRacing gave the ebay link to....Im not a fan of cheap POS welding machines, but then again i weld stuff that HAS to not break for people... I have a couple machines... A miller engine drivin machine that is my dads and then my machine witch is this...
http://www.hobartwelders.com/p....html
But if your just going to do little stuff evey now and then just go for whatever fits your budget... Just dont weld tralers or anything with it or i can promise you youll wish you hadent.... Good Luck...

Will this be able to weld rollcages as well, I am in the market for a welder and need to get something that will be good for side projects and things for the car.

I have a hobart handler 135. It's great!
I welded my entire SS exhaust and turbo downpipe on power level 2 (of 4)

It was my first time welding also.
I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THAT YOU GET ONE THAT USES GAS (Not flux cored)
as the welds are much better.
