You need to keep the EGR valve in the car so the OBDI ECU sees that the valve is "lifting" to allow flow. But you can keep the block plate under the EGR valve not allowing any of the exhaust gasses to recirculate.
No, no one ever said that that knew what they were talking about. You have to have the valve plugged in as well as the little control center....Wasn't there another thread about this and we told you?
alright well previosuly when i had the EGR blocked off with aluminum cans and the EGR valve on top of it with everything connected, i still got a cel ....
whats up?
ill check the codes again tonight..
also, i hav ea vaccum leak somewhere and at idle sometimes it Whistles.. is there a easy way to tell wehre its comin from cause i cant seem to "hear" it specificaly

If you don't have the vacuum lines hooked up along with the EGR just to tell the ECU that it's lifting you'll get a CEL on OBDI. If you have a vacuum leak for any of the vacuum lines you'll most likely get a CEL as well. If it's loud enought o hear then you probably have a large vacuum leak and quite possibly get a CEL from that as well.

The only Difference with OBD1 is that it dosen't check for EGR flow, it still checks to see if the EGR opens and closes, so you COULD make a thin plate that blocks the EGR flow but you still need it there to open and close with the vaccum, the way around it is to run a ecu such as the p28 (sohc Vtec) which has no EGR, then you could completely remove the EGR no problem.
