Default Which tire?

Looking to buy some grippier tires. I've got three in mind. What would you guys recommend and why?

I don't care about treadwear. Just grip.

Dunlop D208 GP-A
Pirelli Diablo Corsa
Michelin Pilot Power

Read lots of good stuff about these tires. They will probably be the new set on my 954.

gpa's are a race compound, they will wear out very fast on the street. Corsas are ok, i've heard great things about the pilot powers but they are a very aggressive tread so if you commute a lot or ever ride in the rain i'd recommend against them. As for other great street tires I'd say bridgestone bt012's, metzelers m1, or dunlop 208gp's.

Michelin claims their tire is the softest in their class. Don't know if that necessarily correlates to the stickiest, but just thought I'd throw that out there.

I've felt the pilot powers with my hands and they are really soft. it would be a complete waste for me to get them...they feel like i would waste them in 1 day at the track or 3 or 4 canyon days...and i'm not that fast!

I'd go with the corsas.

208 GP A is a DOT race tire meant for track use only.
The Michelin and Pirelli are high performance street tires suitable for track duty. The pilot powers will turn in quicker and warm up a little quicker than the Diablo Corsas - after their 1st track day, they looked good enough for another two days and a few thousand street miles.

I have the pilot's on my gixxer 1000 and i love them and trust everybit of them. Now my friend has the diablo's in his f4i and i don't know if it's his riding or what but they just don't seem as grippy as the pilots. but i'd say it is very close

the problem with a DOT race tire is that you have to get them up to temp and keep them there to get good grip out of them, and its not easy to do on the street

i vote perelli diablo or meztler m1, they are both the same compound (same company), just different tread. they are also the only steel belted performance tire so when they get really hot the dont expand as much.

i loved my M1s, they heat up quick and turn in like lightning. i dont have them on the current bike because i commute way to much and i have been super impressed with how much grip the 020 rear 010 front has given me, and getting 8-10k miles out of a rear is what i need for the miles i have been putting on

only one of the tires you listed is a true street tire. the GPAs and corsas are hypersport tires. a better comparison would be between pilot powers, diablos, and bt014s. the old d208s are kinda dated.
you guys are confused about tires catergories a bit.

pirelli
-diablo=supersport/street
-diablo corsa=hypersport/track
-diablo super corsa=race

michelin
-pilot sport=supersport/street
-pilot power=supersport/street
-pilot h2=race

bridgestone
-bt014=supersport/street
-bt012=race

dunlop
-d208=supersport/street
-d208GPA=hypersport
-d208GP=race

metzler
-m1=supersport/street
-rennsport=race

WTF?! Huh? You lost me there.

What the hell is hypersport/supersport/track/race?
I'm assuming street is the high mileage catagory. And I'm assuming race is 1 step down from slicks. WTF is the rest?

hypersports are pretty much dot race tires......uhhh dot approved race tires that you can use in certain classes and aggressive...very aggressive street riding. aint no commuter tire. corsas and gpas are in that catergory
