Default Crane Cams Fireball Ignition questions

I just got the Crane Cams Fireball HI-6DS ignition and can't find any documentation for this specific model. All I can find is info on the HI-6DSR and others that seem slightly different. Anyway, my questions are pretty simple and a matter of opinion in some ways.

I searched for places that everyone has their ignitions installed and had little luck. I can't seem to find a "good" place. I am considering relocating my battery to the trunk and putting the ignition box in it's place on the firewall. Another option I considered was directly behind my intake manifold, but my alarm siren is their and I think their would be more moisture in that place. Lastly, I considered putting it in the passenger compartment behind the glove box. Any ideas? I figure the closer it is to the coil and distributor the better.

Now, on to the more complicated questions...

Is this something I should try to install myself, or would it be worth the $$ to have it done professionally? I am very comfortable with electronics, but not so sure about ignition systems.

Does anyone have this ignition? I'd like to hear some feedback from you if possible and let me know if it's better or worse than... the MSD 6a, for example.

Last one... What kind of realistic gains will I get from this ignition (going to use the LX-93 coil)? I am going to put it on when I put in my crower 404's, dual valve springs, titanium retainers, cam gears, p&p intake manifold, throttle body, and head. Doing all this at once will prohibit me from knowing if it is a worth while system, and this is why I'm asking for some help.

Thanks in advance for your help. If you have pictures of where you installed your system please post them to help me make the decision easier. Thanks

it's a little tricky to mount that ignition box. re-locating the battery sounds like a good idea but kind of a pain in the ***.

i have seen people mount it on the drivers side just above the P/S resivoir. also if you do not have ABS you can put it on the corner when the ABS pump would be. against the firewall like you said would be pretty good if you can move your alarm sirin.

you probably could mount it inside the car under the dash or behind the glove box but it will just be more of a wiring mess......

i saw one guy even mount it on the side of the battery. there is a plastic side cover facing the fuel filter. they took it off anf mounted a couple screws through there.

as for power gains............not a whole lot of power really. but the throttle response will be improved as well as easier/quicker starting, and smoother idle after you install the crower cams.

i had only a Crane PS91 ignition coil and it made a noticable diffrence in idle qualitly and when trying to start the car as well.

crane makes good ignition system......

Thanks for the reply. I think I am going to relocate the battery to the trunk unless the mounting in the passenger compartment idea works out. thanks

oh ya one other thing...........with a higher output spark you will go through plugs a little quicker than normal............but other than that it's cool

the stock plugs are fine.......just you might have to replace them more often.
