It was designed that way to imitate the feel/look of rally cars. I would imagine it's better ergonomically and to better keep the eyes on the road if the driver misses a shift.

The whole point of the shiter is to make the ***** quicker in the sence that time will be reduced moving from the steering wheel to the shifter and back. i don't know if it designed as a short shifter or a hydrolic shifter like the rally cars are but it is close.

I guess it is to make the car fell and look faster.....but they could have done a better job with the asthsteics of the shifter it looks like CRAP!

Who cares what it looks like? I mean, it doesn't look all that bad to begin with and I'm proud of Honda for producing an evolved performance-oriented shifter/car.

i dont think this will grow on us as a current japanese trend like some of the styling is/does, that shifter placement is kinda ansty and i dont see anyway of a resemblence of a rally car unless its a sequential shifting transmission

It's good, it keeps your hands closer to the wheel when shifting.

i myself may not like the looks of the car but Drag II has a good point about the shifter being close to the wheel.

IMO, I think it looks cool. But by just going on looks, you can't tell how well it funtions. Has anyone ever had any hands-on experience with this shifter? Maybe when the new Si comes out and someone gets it, maybe they can tell us about it. But until then, anyone can go ahead and crap on it all they want and not know how well it works.

it is cable driven, just like the last gen preludes... an adapter like neuspeeds can make the throws shorter... I sat in the new Si, even though it is at an odd location, it feels very comfortable and natural to shift.
