ATTN: Any current or prospective SCCA Production class CRX racers
Started as a vague discussion at the Runoffs and a more focussed one at SEMA, I think it is time to put together a letter writing campaign to get the 88-91 CRX Si full prep. car moved from EP to FP and the limited prep from FP to GP. We need to start a letter writing campaign and we need to recruit any current or potential racers to join in. At this point, we should be able to get a half dozen or so folks intereted to start but if anyone else here is interested or lurking, "now is the time to come to the aid of your country...err, racecar".
The racing record of these cars within the current classing and a logical discussion of the cars puts them way out of their league in their current classes (best serious EP CRX thus far is 6 secs. per lap off pace at Mid-Ohio) and the best FP cars are well farther than that back as well. Moving one class will by no means make them run at the front (that EP car would have been now 3+ secs. off the FP Runoffs pole) and the ITA track record at M-O is still 5 secs. slower than fast GP laps and the Limited Prep CRX is basically an ITA car with racing slicks and a street grind cam. The 1500cc CRX DX are already in these classes and generally at the back of the pack as well so these 1600cc Sis should be no over-dog risk.
Anyone interested in joining the bandwagon, let me know via IM or at lgrimes0@insightbb.com as I seem to be the one organizing it (although it was not originally my idea). This would give a better chance for competitiveness for those running and it current IT or H4 guys want to give real racing slicks a chance.

If you would, please email or IM your real name and address and an email address so I can put together a list of people. Once I get a chance to do some organization, we'll come up with a basic outlined plan then everyone can send a letter in their own words so it will be more useful than a cookie cutter or form letter campaign.

Lee:
While you're going to all this effort, please do not limit things to the CRX. 88-91 EF hatches (and four-doors for that matter) should be given equal treatment in the eyes of the SCCA. I still think the CRX will be the chassis too have, but with nearly a million 88-91 Civics produced for North America, there's little point in leaving the other models out of the classification.

yeah, what he said. If I ever get my car finished (91 Civic Si) , it will eventually get a fuel cell so that I can run it in Production as well as Honda-challenge. If it is in a favorable class, so much the better.
