im 17, and about to buy a car. i want to put the insurance under my dad's policy and i guess put myself as a secondary driver or something. how would i go about doing this? also, does the title need to be under his name or can it be under mine?

since i live in NJ, all those companies like Progressive, Geico, State Farm dont offer any programs.. apparently NJ is the worst state for auto insurance. =\

This is true. All the rules are different in New Jersey. Good luck.

Default Grandpa speaks

May I suggest that since New Jersey is what it is that you put the car in your parent's name anyway. If you are financing-that is the only way it will happen anyhow as you are not 18. Many states simply will not allow you to have ownership either-until you reach 18. This is more due to legal issues than anything else. Even if you are not financing-it would be a good idea as it may save on the insurance premium for the family, if multi-car discounts are available.
Good luck and happy Luding

I think everything needs to be under your Dad's name.Thats the way I did it when I was 17.
