Help my 90si?
I can not figure out who the hell to contact with questions about this board. I can't seem to reply to any posts! I have been coming here and reading for a while but I am just now in a position to need to post and every time I try it say's I am not allowed to post!
I have a 1990 Honda Civic Si. It's beautiful, really. My aunt is the original owner and has kept excellent records of every scheduled maintenance, done by Honda dealers, since it was new! I love the car and after 5 years of begging and nagging I am the proud owner of it.
Since I acquired it I added SSR Competition wheels with 205/50/15 Dunlop tires, had Honda tint the windows, dropped in a K&N air filter, Replaced the factory stereo and speakers with a nice MP3/CD player and Polk speakers, put in a higher amp alternator to help keep up with the stereo and updated (replaced everything) the entire A/C system with a NEW Honda R-134a system. Other than that, the car is bone stock.
I'm not one of the "rice boys". I'm not into poser plaques or nonsense upgrades right now. The car is quick enough for now and gets between 32 and 39 mpg depending on where I'm driving (I do cross country driving a lot).
My point? Well, last week some old lady hit my car and the insurance company is giving me a hard time. Don't EVER get involved with Progressive, EVER! I need to buy some parts and figure out what parts will fit my car. If I can't post comment's, how can I even think about buying parts from this forum?
The car was hit on the drivers front corner and wheel so I need basically the front end from a car that will match it. Fender, bumper, lights, hood and some suspension parts (I don't know which one's yet). I'm not interested in scamming anyone, and I'm not interested in getting scammed. I've looked at some other cars to buy and unfortunately I haven't seen ONE that was as nice as this one. That's why I want to fix it. It's never been raced, abused, modified or rusted. Everything on it works and work perfectly.
If you have any advice or suggestions please let me know. I love this car and want it to be whole again. Oh by the way, I am in Bristol, Rhode Island so something local New England would be best but I know how to arrange shipping as well.
Thanks for the great forum!

you can barely see the red text on the rear window, it say's "Boxy but Fast" I worked in a sign shop in 1990 and made that for my aunt when she bought the car new.

Hopefully the shop will put it on the rack tomorrow and I will try to get some pics of the damage. Maybe that will help diagnose the damage and parts needed.
Check out Honda Automotive Parts.com for parts..
Your car is real clean..
Take off the rubber lining on the rear 1/4 panels to prevent rusting..

Thanks for the heads up on the parts house. I'll check it out.
Thanks all for the compliments. It is a sweet car and the interior is just as clean. That's why I wanted it so bad for so long. It's been sitting in the garage for most of it's life. It was only really used for long distance road trips so the milage on it is highway miles.
The thieving bastards at Progressive (not my insurance company, the other lady's) want to give me $2100 for the car as a total loss because it's 14 years old and the accident wasn't even my fault!
If I go through my insurance company it will give me $4600 minimum (because I have extra coverage) but I am trying to avoid putting the claim in on my insurance unless it's a last resort.
I was trying to figure out what kind of junkers I could salvage to find compatible parts like suspension pieces or body parts from.
The other problem I am faced with is wether to make some non-stock changes like replacing the suspension with Eibach or H&R Springs and KYB AGX shocks. I don't want to slam it but maybe an inch of drop and a little ride improvement might be acceptable. It's such a battle having a clean stock Civic and wanting to make some changes but not ruin the appeal of the car.
Maybe if you guys have ideas or suggestions I can work through it. EXAMPLE: If I have to replace the axle, maybe get a nicer aftermarket pair instead for less money. Let's face it, sometimes the Honda part isn't the best, just the most expensive. But then again sometimes it is the best. Tell me what you think.
Thanks TONs!

That's a great car, love the wheels. The paint looks awesome too. Lower it an inch and it'll be perfect.

So I take it you don't like the idea of making any suspension mods eh? It looks kinda rally with all the dead air but I also don't know if .75 inch drop would make that big a difference. I like the idea of having a super clean stock looking car and maybe someday when the engine gives out swap in a supercharged one! Sleeper!
But alas, I digress. I have to get it rolling straight again first, and then back to prettyville.

A small drop, even as much as 1.5" would really make this car perfect. In my opinion, the stock ride height is a little too high.
I'm not sure why your dealing with the other driver's insurance company whatsoever. It just seems a little odd that your getting offers from both sides. The way it works here (Canada), your insurance company takes care of everything. You personally have absolutely no dealings with the other driver's company whatsoever. You get paid out by your insurance company, and then they go after the other driver's company to recover the costs. Plain and simple.

Here the claim usually follows the person at fault. I can go with my insurance company but I already put in 2 claims in the last month and wether it's my fault of not, 3 claims in one month is not going to look good. The first 2 were for a cracked headlight and windshield from road thrown rocks and a very small dent in the side of my fender and wheel from being hit while parked. It was driving me crazy to have these imperfections while I was paying for the premium in the first place, but 8 days after I got it out of the shop some old lady hit me.
UPDATE: The shop says there was no visible damage to the drive-train or suspension and it might only need an alignment. The insurance company has agreed to pay up to $2100 for the repairs without totaling the car, anything over that and I have to use my own insurance. I just want the car fixed without totaling it out.

Thanks HatchBox!
I'm trying to keep it like that. It's hard when I see all these sweet Hondas being customized and hopped up. I think I am going to buy another one just to work on. I'd love to do some sweet mods and engine work but not to this poor little stocker, not till I have to. I'd like to build a little screamer, something with a supercharger and 0-60mph madness!! Maybe even a Rex! I like the Hatch's though.
