Autometer Oil Pressure Gauge??
Well I was given a phantom autometer oil press. gauge, but don't know if it's a mechanical or electrical one. Either or, how do you install this thing? It has only three wires coming out the back + two wires for the lightbulb in there. The wires are not labeled with a tag or anything so how do I figure out which is what? Where do these wires hook up to? I know someone out there got one of these oil pressure gauge so any help is always appreciated. Thanks for any inputs.
Hey SgT, what is the sender and how much am I expecting to pay for it? Also, how do you install this thing? (I have no instructions)
Thanks.
Thanks.
there is a wiring harness on the back of the block next to the oil filter. you drain the oil, then pull that bolt out. Install a brass-T fitting in there, then put the factory wiring harness in one opening and the new autometer gauge sending unit in the other one. wire it up, fill it with oil, start the car, check for leaks, & your done. (NOTE: THAT IS ON AN H22...)
Its the same for B-series engines too. The biggest problem you're probably going to have is not having a socket deep enough to clear the stock oil pressure sending unit.

My engine is an LS/Vtec, so there is a t-fitting already at the place JDM LUDE is probably describing (I'm not really sure the exact spot he's explaining). Do I still need to get a sending unit from Autometer still or is the stock one going to work? I'm confused now.
(Though I'm really appreciating everyone's quick & helpful inputs; That's why I love this forum
)
Someone please help clarify my confused self (keep in mind that I have no instructions or label-for the wires on this gauge & don't really know anyone who've installed one before; the guy who gave it to me just wired up the light of the gauge in his car- but I want it to be useful and functional).
Thanks.

Here maybe this will help, this is described on a GSR block but should be pretty standard on all newer honda motors, first things first you don't need to drain the oil to remove the stock pressure sender, I didn't drain mine.
Here this first pic is of the T bracket they are all talking about but I opted for an elbow fitting and you will see why in the second picture:

Now here is a picture of the sender they are talking about:
(ignore the axle grease on the firewall I had a CV boot blow the day before this picture was taken)

Now as you can see I chose to run an elbow fitting out of the back of the block ran a SS braided line up to my fire wall to a T fitting then put the sender in the T and secured it to the firewall, when I get around to it I will put the stock sender in the other side of the T and extend the stock wiring up to the new location, I chose to do this because you can see how big that sensor is, and I have seen those senders because of their size and weight brake the T fitting off at the block and well then you blow all your oil and possibly the motor.
Does this help at all?
Oh yeah and by the way about the wiring ok for the light there is a black and white wire, pretty basic wiring here white is lights tap your fuse box for this, and black is ground.
For the three wires coming out of the gauge one goes to the sender, the other is ignition(when on or running) and the third is ground, now on the back of the guage where these wires go should be 3 threaded posts well next to each post is a label of what wire goes there, should be a little circle next to each post, one has a + another has a - and the third has a "S" I believe
+ ignition
- Ground
S sender

Thanks alot KawiGreenVTEC. The details + pics you gave me is gonna help me out so much.
My last question is that big sender unit you've got mounted on your firewall is an aftermarket one? Is it an "Autometer sending unit?" Does it usually come w/ the gauge or do I have to buy it seperately (if so, how much are they usually)?--I don't have one.
Oh yeah, Thanks again for takin the time to upload pics, etc.
